Pros
Distinctive blackish-blue tongue shared only with the Shar Pei
Loyal and devoted, forming strong bonds with one main person
Thick double coat available in smooth or rough types offering unique appearance
Excellent watchdog capabilities ingrained through centuries of guarding and hunting
Cons
Requires consistent early socialisation and training due to strong-willed nature
Moderate to high grooming needs with seasonal heavy shedding
Prone to separation anxiety if left alone for long periods
High prey drive necessitates cautious off-lead management near livestock
