Description

Meet Gomez 💙 Sex: Male Breed: American Bulldog cross Age: 2 years Size: Medium/Large Location : Wiltshire Poor Gomez did not have the best start in life. He came into our care as part of a welfare case in December 2024, when multiple dogs were removed from a property and signed over to us. When he first arrived into our care he required veterinary treatment for a number of skin issues, including sores, scabs and hair loss. Initially Gomez was a very wary and shut-down dog. He appeared anxious around people and would often flinch at sudden movements or raised hands, suggesting that he may not have experienced many positive interactions in his past. Gomez remained in kennels until June 2026, spending the latter part of his kennel stay in a quieter kennels in Surrey. Although he initially did well in the quieter environment he never found kennel life particularly easy. Towards the end of his stay he began to struggle with going out for exercise, sometimes lying down and refusing to move despite encouragement with treats, toys and different exercise areas. Overall Gomez was experiencing high levels of kennel stress and separation anxiety. Thankfully, Gomez moved into a foster home in June 2026, where he currently resides. With time, patience and consistency he has made significant progress. He is a picture of health and has learnt a great deal about living in a home as his foster carers have invested a huge amount into helping him understand home life. He is a soft and loving dog, but he remains a nervous boy who can worry that he is being abandoned again whenever someone leaves 😢 . Despite this he still thinks he is a puppy and can display some typical puppy-like behaviours. He can sometimes forget his own size and become over-excited - this is something his foster carers are continuing to work on with him on. Gomez needs routine, supervision, enrichment and continued training. He is incredibly intelligent and a fast learner. He has already learnt paw, sit, lay, wait and spin, and he is naturally interested in the world around him. He enjoys learning and will benefit greatly from having positive reinforecement training, plenty of excercise and mental stimulation as part of his everyday life. Gomez can seek attention like a naughty child by destroying his bedding. He is a clever dog who can become bored, so enrichment toys, brain games, training and a consistent daily routine will all help him to settle successfully into family life - if he becomes bored may seek out things that he should not have 🤭 This poor boy has struggled with separation anxiety both in kennels and in his foster home. He has been crate trained to help him manage this, and he has a clear bedtime routine which will need to be maintained in his new home as he worries about being left. Overnight Gomez can still struggle with being alone and is happiest knowing that someone is nearby. Gomez has been good with people coming into the home and is not bothered by visitors. Rather than seeking them out, he tends to shy away from them, which may be linked to his past experiences. He accepts harness, lead and collar, and walks well on the lead. He can become excited when his lead is being put on and may bounce around trying to take it. He is always double-leaded because he can still be nervous when out walking, experiencing unfamiliar sounds and sights. His new family will need to continue managing this carefully and positively. While Gomez has done incredibly well in his foster home moving into his forever home will still be a big step for him. His new family will need to understand this and be prepared to continue the great work his foster carers have started. 🏡 Gomez is looking for a forever home that is: 🌟Adult only, no children 🏠 Someone at home all the time to help with his separation anxiety 🐮🐶 Experience with large dogs, ideally with Bull breed experience . 🐾Calm and committed to building confidence using positive reinforcement training and enrichment. 🐶 Gomez could potentially live with another dog of a similar or larger size with an experienced handler. 🚫🐈‍⬛️🐹No cats or small furries, as Gomez has shown prey drive towards smaller animals. ✅️ Neutered ✅️Vaccinated ✅️Microchipped Available for: Foster with a view to adopt Homecheck Deposit and Adoption fees apply. Pros

Deeply loyal and devoted to family — one of the most people-oriented medium crossbreeds
Very low grooming requirements — the short, smooth coat needs only a weekly brush
Generally robust and healthy when from well-bred working lines
Excellent with children when properly trained and socialised from puppyhood

Cons

Strong, muscular build requires an experienced, consistent owner capable of managing a powerful medium dog
Early socialisation and obedience training are non-negotiable — a poorly trained American Bull Staffy is very difficult to manage
May show dog-selective behaviour; same-sex dog aggression can be a concern without proper socialisation
Brachycephalic features in some individuals require heat and exercise management
