🐾 Hansel – 2-year-old Spaniel (Show Cocker x American Cocker)
📍 Fostered in Gloucestershire (adult home with another dog)
Hansel came into rescue alongside five other dogs from a breeder who has now stopped breeding. He has lived a very sheltered life and, aside from being around other dogs, had little to no experience of the outside world when he arrived with us.

Hansel has made wonderful progress in his foster home in a short space of time. Like the others, he was initially very timid and cautious around new people, but once he warms up you begin to see the young, care****************** he should be at this age.
He gets on very well with the other dog in the home and has made great strides outside too. Hansel is doing well on walks, is getting used to the lead, and has even been off lead for short periods, returning quickly when called.
The outside world is still very overwhelming for him at times — if he sees a large dog or something unfamiliar, he may freeze on the spot — but each positive experience helps his confidence grow.
All of his interactions with other dogs so far have been positive.

Hansel has been on short car journeys. He does find travelling scary, but he will settle and cope with reassurance.
House training is going really well — he has been dry for nearly a week now. He sleeps in a crate overnight and has already learned some basic commands. Hansel is clearly a bright little dog who is eager to learn and please.
One of the dogs he arrived in rescue with visited recently, and the recognition between them was instant — kisses, wagging tails, and within minutes they were racing around the garden together in joyful zoomies, forgetting all their worries.
It was a lovely moment to see. Hansel has also started to enjoy toys, especially playing with a ball in the garden.

Under the gentle and patient guidance of his foster carer, Hansel has made huge progress.
Once he knows you, he is a friendly, affectionate, and loving little dog. We are starting to see flashes of the happy, slightly crazy Spaniel he’s meant to be — he may retreat again when things feel too much, but his confidence is growing all the time.
We have no doubt that next week’s update will show even more progress.
Hansel has been seen by our vets and has now been neutered. He has started his vaccinations and has been treated for ear infections and ear mites.
🏡 The Home Hansel Needs
Hansel will need a special, understanding home with previous experience of rescue dogs. We feel he would benefit greatly from living with another calm, gentle dog who can offer reassurance and companionship — and who will enjoy playing with him once he finds his feet.
An adult-only, quiet home is essential, but it’s important to note that we expect Hansel to be higher energy than some of our other Spaniels.
An active home would suit him well, where his new family will continue the patient, kind approach his foster carer has given him — gradually introducing him to the world without overwhelming him.
If you feel you could offer Hansel the loving, understanding home he needs, please get in touch and we can send you our application form:
