Meet Winston!
Five-year-old Winston is a handsome, clever boy with the sweetest nature who is looking for a patient family to call his own. Weighing around 21kg and currently based in Dinas Powys, Winston may be a little shy at first, but once you’ve earned his trust, you’ll discover a wonderfully affectionate companion with plenty of love to give.
Winston can be a little unsure when meeting new people, but don’t let first impressions fool you. Give him five or ten minutes, and his curiosity soon gets the better of him. Before long, he’ll be happily asking for fuss and showing off his gentle, goofy personality. He enjoys little bursts of play throughout the day but is just as content spending hours curled up on the sofa with his favourite people. If you happen to give him a scratch just above his tail, you’ll quickly become his favourite person!
A smart lad, Winston is fully house-trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside. He enjoys learning and will thrive with owners who are happy to continue building his confidence using kind, positive reinforcement. Winston is currently taking fluoxetine to help manage his anxiety, and this has been a valuable part of helping him feel more relaxed as he continues making progress.
On walks, Winston isn’t particularly interested in other dogs and is happy to walk alongside calm canine companions. He can, however, become worried in certain situations, which may lead to barking and lunging on the lead. Because of this, he’s looking for adopters who are willing to continue his training at his own pace and help him feel safe as he explores the world. With patience, understanding, and consistency, Winston has every opportunity to continue growing in confidence.
Although Winston is comfortable around other dogs when out and about, he would prefer to be the only dog in the home so he can enjoy all the love and attention for himself. He could happily live with cats and would also suit a home with older, dog-savvy children who understand that he may need a little time to settle into new situations. His ideal home will be calm, supportive, and full of people who appreciate that building trust is one of the most rewarding journeys you can take with a dog.
Once Winston knows you’re his person, you’ll be rewarded with a loyal best friend who loves a cosy sofa, the perfect back scratch, and simply being close to the people he loves.
