Description
Bernie is a 2 year old Labrador X Collie. He is very energetic and loves to go on long walks and hikes, and would play fetch for hours. He has basic training and can sit/lie down, and go in his bed on command. His recall is perfect, he will always come back the second you whistle or call him. Bernie currently lives with a cat and they get on fine, no issues. He is fine in the house on his own for up to 6 hours, but ideally this wouldn't be often as he loves company more than anything else.
Bernie has had a tough start to life, he was moved around various homes before he came to us, and we don't believe he was walked or let out the house often. He also lived with another dog before us who would bully him, which has unfortunately led to Bernie having reactive issues around other dogs, and can definitely not live with another dog again. He is incredibly anxious when he sees another dog, and this can lead to reactivity/aggression if he gets too close to one. Therefore Bernie needs to go to an experienced dog owner who knows how to manage this reactivity and ideally work with him to try and improve it over time. His new owner would need to keep a good distance from other dogs when on a walk, and make sure he is on the lead and possibly even muzzled if there if another dog close by to prevent anyone from getting hurt.
Bernie would benefit from a big garden where he can run around and burn off energy, and ideally a house where there is often someone home. He would suit someone who works from home or is retired. He is good around confident children who don't mind him being a bit boisterous when excited.
Bernie makes amazing company, he is incredibly affectionate and loving. He loves to cuddle up with you on the sofa and get as close to you as he can. He is great at training and would be really good at agility.
If you're someone who understands and can manage reactive behaviors, and has a loving home where someone is home most of the time, then you could make a perfect fit for Bernie.
