Description
Ronnie is a 19-month-old male dog described as a Boxer cross Olde Tyme Bulldog. He is a loving, affectionate boy who has settled well into home life and has become a much-loved part of our family.
At home, Ronnie is generally settled, enjoys being around his people and loves having company. He knows basic commands, including sit, paw, down and bed, and can be a lovely companion. He has many wonderful qualities, and this is not a decision we are taking lightly.
Unfortunately, since bringing Ronnie into our home, we have experienced significant difficulties with his behaviour outside. He pulls strongly on the lead and lunges towards people and other dogs. Due to his size and strength, this can be difficult to manage safely, particularly in busy environments. He has also previously been attacked by another dog, and we believe his experiences and socialisation history need to be taken into consideration when assessing his behaviour.
We have been putting training advice into practice and are arranging professional help to assess Ronnie’s behaviour and understand what support he needs. We want to establish whether his difficulties can be managed safely and realistically.
We are looking for an experienced, responsible person who understands large, powerful dogs and is prepared to work with a qualified trainer or behaviour professional. Ronnie needs consistent boundaries, appropriate lead management and someone who understands the importance of preventing uncontrolled greetings with people and other dogs while his behaviour is being assessed.
Ronnie will not be handed over to just anyone. Any potential home will need to be carefully considered, and we will be completely honest about the difficulties we have experienced. We want to ensure that anyone interested understands his needs and has the time, experience and ability to manage him responsibly.
This is an incredibly difficult situation because Ronnie is such a lovely boy at home, and we have genuinely tried to give him the opportunity to settle and succeed with us. However, we also have to consider his welfare, the safety of others and whether we can realistically provide the level of support he needs.
Ronnie’s welfare is important to us, and we are looking for someone who genuinely understands his needs and can provide the right environment, experience and support for him.
Please only enquire if you are genuinely experienced, committed and prepared to discuss Ronnie’s behaviour openly. His future and welfare must come first.
