Description

Bella ❤️ Nearly 10-month-old French Bulldog Fostered in Tavistock, Devon Currently living in an adult foster home with other dogs and visiting grandchildren. Bella has had a rather unsettled start to life. She spent her first 6–7 months with one family before being sold privately through Facebook for £250. She then lived with a lady and her young child in a flat, but after only a few months she was once again going to be passed on. Thankfully, a relative of one of our foster families became concerned that Bella would simply be advertised on Facebook again and contacted us. She arrived with us just in time, as she had also just come into season. That is the history we know. Bella has now been with us for a month and has made lovely progress. She is very much a typical Frenchie in many ways - affectionate, funny and full of character - but it has become clear that she missed out on some important socialisation and basic training during her early months. Her foster mum has been working incredibly hard to help her gain confidence and learn how to cope with situations she has never really experienced before. Bella absolutely adores people. She loves fuss, cuddles and being close to you. She has also lived happily alongside the other dogs in her foster home, playing and relaxing with them most of the time. However, when excitement levels suddenly rise - such as someone ringing the doorbell or at feeding time - Bella can become over-aroused and rush towards the other dogs. Feeding time is easily managed by using her crate, but unexpected situations like visitors arriving are harder to predict. For that reason, we feel Bella would be happiest as an only dog, where she doesn't have the pressure of competing with or reacting to other dogs when excitement levels increase. Please don't let that put you off though - we've included plenty of videos below so you can see just how relaxed and happy she is with the other dogs during everyday life. Shorts clips of different situations with Bella https://youtube.com/shorts/y647tCDFWaY?si=S3gVZN0Q18jJEtt_ Walking has also been a learning curve. Initially Bella pulled badly on the lead, but with a better-fitting harness she has improved enormously. She also wanted to chase moving cars, something that has reduced significantly with patient training. She will still occasionally focus on traffic if she hears it, but this continues to improve. Her favourite thing in the world is being somewhere quieter where she can run, chase her ball and proudly bring it back. She now enjoys lovely walks on Dartmoor and along the river, where she has begun enjoying off-lead walks and her recall is coming on really well. Again, we've included videos so you can see her progress for yourselves. Bella now travels well in the car too, especially if she is either in the footwell or in a covered crate where she feels secure. She is clean in the house and sleeps happily in her crate all night without any problems. She has also met her foster family's grandchildren. Lots of younger children visiting together proved a little overwhelming for her, but with an older, calm granddaughter she was relaxed, affectionate and thoroughly enjoyed the company, as you'll see in the videos. When life is calm and predictable, Bella is a wonderfully easy little dog to live with. We feel her unsettled early life has left her finding busy households, frequent visitors and lots of activity quite stressful. She simply hasn't had the stability that every puppy deserves. Because of this, we are looking for a home that can offer her exactly that. Bella is looking for: An adult-only home. To be the only dog. No cats. A quieter home without lots of visitors or constant comings and goings. Someone with experience of rescue dogs who understands that confidence takes time to build. In return, you'll have a loyal, affectionate little companion who is already showing just how much she can blossom when given patience, consistency and love. Her foster family have done an amazing job helping Bella on her journey so far and will continue working with her until the perfect home comes along. Please take the time to watch the videos below. They show the real Bella - playing, relaxing, learning and becoming more confident every day. We are incredibly proud of how far she has already come.
