Description
Willow is an extremely well-trained girl, her situation is quite unique. She will require a large garden in a rural location. Willow has a high prey drive but cannot be around guns - she would not become a retriever or beater in shooting. She struggles with loud bangs (tolerates fireworks with calming treats. No Cats. She can be around livestock. No Children. Location: Gloucs.
Willows story from her foster mum:
Willow was adopted in November 2019. Where she lived with her mummy and daddy. Sadly may this year after years of fighting cancer her Dad passed away. There was a lot of unsettlement through the last 3 years, due to the battle her dad had with cancer. Willow sensed the pain her dad went through, and the home life was always a very quiet settled one from visitors, and lots of movement. Unfortunately, her mum's circumstances have changed significantly and due to a change in home. she's come to me in foster care in Worcestershire.
Great things about Willow:
She has a very soft mouth - does not chew anything, takes treats and food gently, does not guard her food. She is very gentle - never shown any aggression although she does bark when people come to the house, she does not bark when out on walks.
Overall, very healthy. Fully vaccinated (except kennel cough), next booster due Feb 2026. She appears to enjoy going to the vet and has never been aggressive/ snappy whilst there.
Good recall - has whistle and name recall, does not stray far away and regularly checks in. We like to encourage her natural instinct to sniff/ hunt for rabbits.
She has basic commands - come, sit, wait, leave, hup (to jump over stiles/ into the car, on you go (as release) and take it. She has naturally developed the instinct to move into the side of the road when not on a pavement if there is a car coming.
She does not pull on the lead. She walks on my right, so she is nearest the hedge.
She likes being touched by people she knows - she asks for strokes and tummy rubs, and happily lets me cut her claws and she will be groomed by me as long as chew is at hand ready for when finished. She is a very clean dog - she likes to be wiped off with a towel if she is wet or muddy and she actively avoids puddles/ mud/ water. She does not swim, she will paddle in calm water to her chest on a very hot day!
She is ok with other dogs, and now in foster lives with 8 other dogs. Out on walks she usually ignores most dogs, some dogs she may choose to go to sniff. She very rarely plays with dogs, or toys for that matter. She has appropriate dog manners but is reluctant to let other dogs sniff her if she is on the lead. She happily enters houses that have dogs living in them and once she knows a dog, will let them in her house.
She is good with livestock - she is wary of cattle and will naturally take a wide berth around them. She is brilliant with sheep - can walk off lead right through lots of sheep and she will ignore them.
She is obviously house trained, has never chewed any furniture or clothes or shoes, but she does like a stick or an antler or yak chew. She does not go on the furniture.
Not so good things about Willow:
She does have a strong prey drive, although this is lessening as she gets older. She definitely could not live with any small furries.
Children are unknown to Willow. I don't think she could live with them as she dislikes sudden loud, unpredictable movements. She has not been around children.
She is anxious. She is particularly anxious about guns (of which there are a few here as it is a rural area where people shoot rabbits and ducks and deer). If she hears a gun, she will not go outside, even into our garden, and if out on a walk, she will either hunker down and refuse to move, or start to run/ trot back to the car or home. There have been multiple occasions when Willow has refused to go for a walk and we don't know why but possibly she has heard noises that I haven't. She also does not like staple guns or hammering. She seems to not mind bird scarers.
She also hates thunder and fireworks - these cause her to have panic attacks. She has had good responses to Calming tablets for acute situations (firework night for example).
She is not a fond lover of travelling in the car although she does tolerate it and she has not been travel sick.
Her entertainment is hunting. She likes to dig out mice/ voles, and look for rabbits. She is a good hunter and will catch rabbits. We have let her do this. She isn't really food orientated although she likes her treats.
She does not like strangers touching her and will bark when people come to the house but not aggressive- a good security dog.
