A little bit about these lovely, peaceful shrimp……
Crystal Red Bee Shrimp are a beautiful and much-admired species in the freshwater aquarium world. Their vivid red and white patterns make them stand out in any tank, while their natural habit of grazing on algae and waste helps maintain a cleaner, healthier environment.
Location
These shrimp originate from freshwater streams and rivers in Japan and China. In home aquariums, they do best in stable, well-kept tanks that replicate the clean and calm waters of their native habitats.
Diet
Crystal Red Bee Shrimp mainly eat detritus—decaying organic material, biofilm, and algae. They will also consume leftover food from other fish or shrimp. A balanced diet can be achieved by offering high-quality shrimp pellets, algae wafers, or blanched vegetables to enhance their colour and vitality.
Care
Consistent water quality is key to keeping these shrimp healthy. They prefer temperatures between 22°C and 28°C and a pH level of 6.5–7.5. Performing regular water changes helps maintain ideal conditions. Avoid any products or treatments containing copper, as even small amounts can be harmful to shrimp.
Habitat
The ideal setup includes a soft substrate such as sand or fine gravel. Adding live plants, driftwood, and rocks will create natural hiding places and surfaces for biofilm growth. Crystal Red Bee Shrimp prefer gentle water movement, so it’s best to use low-flow filtration to reduce stress.
Breeding
When kept in stable and healthy conditions, Crystal Red Bee Shrimp breed readily. Females carry eggs beneath their abdomen—often called the “saddle” position—until they hatch. The young shrimp are fully independent from birth and begin feeding right away.
