Description

Sidney is a 3 Year old Medium/Large Female. She is neutered, vaccinated and has no known health issues. Sidney was rescued from the streets of Curtea De Arges Romania in February 2024. Sidney was described as a playful and energetic girl. Sidney spent 6 Months in the shelter before moving to her adoption home in August 2024. Sidney was with her family for less than 24 hours however due to no separation, decompression or time to settle Sidney found the move very overwhelming which caused her to become guarded of the main owner in the house, this caused her to growl and lunge at the son and husband and resulted on nips on two occasion, once causing a bruise. They therefore made the decision to surrender her. Sidney moved to her foster home on the same day and had been settling very well until one evening late at night, she bit the adult son, she was then moved to the kennels the next day. She previously had no issues in the home. In a home Sidney was described as being nervous around new visitors and would often gravitate towards her favourite human before investigating the new people. Since being at the kennels Sidney has been very reactive especially in the kennels. She has been very wary of men and reacted to some men but not others. An assessment from a behaviourist stated that she should go to a female only home or one with a man who knows how to read a dogs body language and isn’t too overbearing with her. Sidney accepts collar, harness and lead, she walks well on the lead and does not pull. She takes her time and lots of sniff around. When on walks Sidney can be reactive to vehicles especially vans and bikes. Sidney met children within the shelter aged 6+ and was very good with them, the neighbourhood children also say hello to her over the fence and she will wag her tail. However, due to Sidneys increased reactivity she needs a child free home. Sidney has met cats in the shelter, she was very excited which caused her to chase and be very boisterous however she didn't show any aggression. Sidney could potentially live with a very confident, dog savvy cat who would be okay with her rough play style and with separation. Sidney was very good with dogs while in Romania, she has enjoyed the company of the male dog in the home and has gained lots of confidence since her arrival, she however do not like the female dog within the home which has resulted in a fight on one occasion. Sidney has made friends with Derry in her time here so could possibly share her home with a male dog pending successful meets. She is very playful and boisterous so would need a dog that can match her energy. Sidney has redirected onto staff when reacting in the kennels and on walks, due to this she has to be walked with a muzzle on, she is also a bite risk to new people. She is reactive to strangers dogs and traffic. She food guards so needs to be left alone while she's eating and would need to be fed separately from other dogs Sidney travels well in the car. Sidney loves cheese and chicken and loves playing fetch. She is a very cuddly and affectionate girl once you have gained her trust.
