Description
Joshie is an orphan. He has joined us with his two sisters in our luton foster home and needs a home to go to at the end of the month. His sisters have found homes but Joshie keeps getting overlooked despite being adorable...!
kitten season is now underway and many more kittens are expected in our foster homes over the coming weeks.
Demand for young kittens is extremely high between March and July, so I operate a kitten list system.
Approved adopters who join the kitten list are contacted first when kittens reach around 4 weeks old and are ready to choose from or reserve, or when kittens aged 4+ weeks come into our care.
Most adopters choose to join the list in advance, as those on the list are given first opportunity in order of deposits received, and popular colours such as calico and ginger often receive a high number of enquiries very quickly.
Joining the kitten list gives you the best chance of adopting a kitten from the upcoming litters.
Kittens are usually individually chosen from around 4 weeks old, as the first few weeks can be unpredictable. Waiting until around 4 weeks helps avoid potential disappointment and ensures kittens are strong and thriving before reservations are confirmed.
A £50 deposit is required to join the kitten list once approved. This secures your place on the list and means you will be among the first people contacted when kittens are ready to choose from. The £50 is deducted from the adoption fee.
How to apply / join the kitten list
The quickest and easiest way to apply is to send a message here and I will send you my WhatsApp number.
From there we can:
• complete the application
• get you approved to adopt
• discuss suitable kittens
• add you to the kitten list if needed
WhatsApp is usually the fastest way to reach me and helps me respond more quickly, especially during busy kitten season. Message me here or via the site for my number.

Current Kitten Situation (9 April snapshot)
As of 9th April, a snapshot of the current kitten situation across just three of our foster homes looks like this:
• 3 litters under 4 weeks old
• several pregnant mums due soon
• orphaned kittens needing round-the-clock care
• kittens around 3 months old discarded by breeders once considered “too old” to sell
• numerous kittens and young cats aged 6 months+ often overlooked as adopters naturally gravitate towards younger babies during kitten season
Very young kittens often receive a high number of enquiries very quickly, which is why joining the kitten list gives you the best chance of adopting a kitten aged around 4 months or younger before September.
However, if you are open to welcoming a kitten or young cat just a few months older, you may find your perfect companion is already waiting — and sometimes ready much sooner.
Many slightly older kittens are just as playful, affectionate and adaptable as younger ones, but are often overlooked simply because more tiny babies become available throughout kitten season.
When applying, it really helps if you let me know the age range (in months or years) you would be open to.
Once approved, I can tell you about any cats or kittens already available within your preferred range — meaning you may not need to join the kitten list at all if you are open to slightly older kittens.
Being open to a slightly wider age range can sometimes mean a quicker match — and a life-changing opportunity for a kitten who has been patiently waiting for their forever home.
About Penny Paws
Hi, I’m Rebecca and I run Penny Paws, a small independent, non-profit rescue helping cats in need find safe, loving permanent homes.
Penny Paws grew from simply wanting to help the occasional cat who had nowhere else to go. Over time, this has developed into a trusted network of foster homes and volunteers, all working together to give cats a second chance at a secure and happy future.
Cats come into our care from all sorts of situations — strays, abandoned cats, unwanted litters, or much-loved pets needing rehoming due to changes in circumstances. Many arrive confused or unsettled, so taking the time to carefully match each cat to the right home is incredibly important to me.
We work closely with trusted rescues and catteries, while always aiming to secure foster homes for cats that need time to learn to trust humans again or heal from past trauma. A home environment — whether foster or permanent — is always the long-term goal. Our partner shelters and catteries play an important short-term role in some cats’ journeys and without them many would remain homeless.
Penny Paws is entirely self-funded and non-profit. Nobody involved receives a salary — adoption fees and donations go directly towards vet care, food, litter, transport and rescue costs.
Each cat receives at least one vet check and parasite treatment as standard, and any cats old enough are neutered.
The aim is always a smooth transition and a safe, permanent home.
Applying early and joining the kitten list gives you the best chance of adopting a kitten this season.
Every adoption makes space for another cat needing help.
Thank you for supporting rescue 💛🐾
