💙 Duke is coming up to his 10th birthday… could the greatest ****************** be a home of his own? 💙 Duke has been in foster for a few weeks now, and little by little, we're beginning to see the boy underneath all those years of uncertainty. His foster has been getting to know him and, more importantly, learning what Duke needs from his forever home. He needs someone patient. Someone who understands that a relationship with Duke won't happen overnight and is prepared to start at the beginning, building his trust and showing him that he is safe. 🏡 His foster feels Duke's perfect home would be: 🐾 A quiet, calm household 🐾 Someone patient who won't put pressure on him 🐾 A home where he can build a bond and trust at his own pace 🐾 Another friendly dog could be a real asset as his confidence grows around other dogs, although this isn't essential 🐾 Someone willing to show an older boy just how good life can be Duke is friendly with people, but he can still be nervous, particularly coming in and out of the house and around his collar and lead. He responds really well to encouragement and reassurance. And we're already seeing changes. ❤️ He comes over for a fuss. He'll sometimes climb onto the bed beside his foster. His tail now wags when they say hello. He's excited to see everyone in the morning and he's beginning to interact more with the other dogs. His foster thinks the bed he has now may even be the first proper bed he's ever had — and Duke absolutely loves sprawling out on it. 💔❤️ He also loves getting out for walks, particularly trips to the beach, and is often the first one wanting to get out of the car and explore. Duke is a bigger boy at 25kg+ and does have a limp from an old injury, but that certainly doesn't stop him enjoying his adventures. At almost 10, we're not looking for someone to change Duke overnight. We're looking for someone who will give him time, care and love and let him discover, at his own pace, what being truly cared for feels like.
