🐾 Ray – 4-year-old American Cocker x Show Cocker
📍 Fostered in Gloucestershire (adult home with other dogs)
Ray came into rescue alongside five other dogs from a breeder who has now stopped breeding.
He has lived a very sheltered life and, apart from being around multiple dogs, had little to no experience of the outside world when he arrived with us.
Since coming into foster a few weeks ago, lovely Ray has made fantastic progress.
He has a wonderfully sunny nature, is very keen to please, and has so much love to give. Even when he’s feeling unsure, his gentle heart and desire to do well help him push through his fears at his own pace.
Ray is currently fostered with Chico. Initially, he was extremely nervous around the resident dogs, so introductions were taken slowly over the course of a week.
He now happily mixes with them and has had no issues at all. Ray and Chico have built a lovely bond and often play together, racing around the garden.

Ray is a happy little soul whose tail is almost always wagging, but he does still find new situations and unfamiliar dogs scary.
During an encounter where a Labrador ran towards him, Ray screamed despite not being touched — a sad reminder of how overwhelming the world can still feel to him.
Since then, he has been gently introduced to other dogs and, when given space, is slowly growing in confidence.
He remains wary but is learning that not everything is frightening.

Despite never having been out on a walk before coming into foster, Ray took to it like a pro.
He was a little wiggly and weaved about at first (careful not to trip over him!), but he was clearly very proud of himself and enjoyed the experience.

Ray travels well in the van with Chico, riding in a crate, and will even jump in happily on his own. He sleeps well overnight in the utility room with Chico (not crated) and is clean through the night.
House training is still a work in progress, which isn’t helped by the fact that he is currently entire — this is expected to improve once he has been neutered.

Ray has been seen by the vet and does have a few medical needs.
He requires the removal of several teeth, has been treated for painful ear infections and mites, and has a cherry eye.
He has seen an eye specialist and, following surgery, we do not expect him to need ongoing treatment. In the meantime, he is using eye drops to keep his eyes comfortable. Otherwise, he is in good health.
🏡 The Home Ray Needs
Ray will need a special, understanding home with previous experience of rescue dogs.
We feel he would really benefit from living with another calm, gentle dog who can offer reassurance and guidance. An adult-only, quiet home is essential, where his new family will continue the patient, kind approach his foster carer has given him — gradually introducing him to the world without overwhelming him.

Ray has a beautiful temperament. Once he knows you, he loves people and thrives on gentle affection. He is a soft, loving dog who will make a deeply rewarding companion for the right person willing to give him time, patience, and lots of love.
