About Aspen
Aspen’s life got off to a very rocky start. He was abandoned as a young puppy in Cyprus and found seriously unwell with parvovirus. After spending time in the vets and making a full recovery, he joined the shelter and eventually travelled to the UK as a foster. Since arriving, it’s been a bit of a journey for him, and it’s taken time to really understand what he needs to feel settled and secure.
After struggling to find the right fit in a home environment, Aspen has spent the last couple of months in kennels, where he has surprised everyone with just how well he’s done. With clear routines, patient handling and consistent care, he has really come into himself. He’s responded brilliantly to basic training, built very strong relationships with the staff and grown hugely in confidence. Aspen is a clever, energetic young dog, but new and unfamiliar situations can still feel overwhelming for him, and are often made more challenging by the fact that he is deaf.
Aspen is great with people and has been incredibly sociable, affectionate and engaged with those caring for him. Everyone who has been involved with him at the kennels has been really charmed by his personality. He’s a cheeky, busy puppy who loves cuddles, fuss and being the centre of attention. Once he feels safe, his personality really shines and he shows just how much he enjoys human company.
When it comes to other dogs, Aspen is more selective. While he has previously lived alongside other dogs, is kennelled parallel to other dogs, and can pass dogs calmly on walks, we think that overall he would be happiest as the only dog in the home. We suspect that earlier experiences may have left him feeling automatically defensive, and giving him a space where he doesn’t have to share attention or resources will help him relax and feel secure.
We are looking for an adult only home without other pets. As Aspen is deaf, it’s important that his environment is predictable and calm, and we don’t feel it would be fair to place him in a home with children or cats. He would thrive in a quieter, more rural setting with access to a garden and plenty of opportunity to burn off energy in a safe way. Aspen is clever and has learned hand signals for certain commands, so he would love to continue with further training as he really likes to learn and engage.
Aspen needs a confident, committed adopter who understands that he’s a young dog who has had a lot of upheaval in a short space of time. With the right people, he lights up and shows what a sweet, silly and loving boy he really is. Experience with training or deaf dogs would be helpful but isn’t essential, as long as his new family are patient, open to learning and ready to give him the structure and stability he’s been missing.
