Description
Barry is a very sweet and affectionate boy who is full of energy. He came straight to OSH from Romania in 2025 and after months of waiting went into a home. However, he was returned a few months later after attacking the owner's father when he entered the home. He had shown a disliking to him previously, this resulted in the man needing medical attention due for his wounds. He was returned to OSH after the incident. Since he has been back at OSH we haven't witnessed any aggression from Barry and he continues to be fine with volunteers and new staff members.
Barry ideally needs a child and cat free home with minimal visitors and an adopter who is experienced in slowly introducing a dog to new people and putting barriers in place when visitors are in the house. Barry has had no issues with dogs at the kennels, he particularly like puppies but is very boisterous and mouthy which some dogs don't like.
He is very greedy and has a tendency to snatch and steel things, we can distract him with other treats to get him away from whatever he's stolen but would not attempt to directly take something from him.
He walks nicely on the lead but can get a bit over excited at first which can result in him pulling or getting a bit bouncy. He has been to the vets and was very well behaved. He is having muzzle training and can wear it if needs be with lots of treats for encouragement.
Barry is non-destructive and generally clean in his kennel but can be known to wee overnight. He likes a nice comfy bed and soft toys. He is neutered and has no current health conditions. He had a period where he had blood in his wee but it got resolved with medication and there have been no incidents since.
Barry has a very high prey drive so cannot live with vats or small furries, he does pull to get to thing on his walks as well so will need to be mindful of that. He has been fine with kids here but we wouldn't place him with them due to his bite history. He could potentially live with dogs in an experienced household pending multiple successful meet however, we would prefer to place him on his own.
He is a very affectionate and happy boy and has lots of energy, but he does settle nicely in his bed in his kennel after a long walk. as long as he has food and affection and some time to sunbathe he is happy. He loves his walks and is a bit of a digger, he currently holds the record for biggest hole dug at the kennels
