Description
Honey arrived from Romania in 2020 and has spent that time in an adopters home, they surrendered her as they could not help her with her nervousness, she moved into her foster home at the beginning of April 25. She is microchipped, vaccinated and spayed. She has no known health issues but is a bit overweight so a controlled diet and regular exercise should be in place for her.
Honey does enjoy spending time with people but initially can show fear aggression toward men when meeting them, ideally she does better being in a separate room with time allowed for her to be calm before meeting. For this reason we are looking for a female main carer and understanding males in the home. She has previously lived with children aged 10 and enjoyed her time with them. Her nervousness that was abundant in her previous home has reduced a lot with other dogs around her, they have helped build her confidence and we are looking for a home where she will be living with at least one other dog. She has previously lived with a cat and loved playing chase games with them but was gentle and never hurt them. As with any dog meeting new animals, children and adults sensible and supervised meets should be in place.
Honey is toilet and crate trained. She was showing signs of separation anxiety when left originally at night in her foster home, when she was moved to a different room this stopped, she may need support of finding comfortable space to sleep overnight if alone. She has not been left alone whilst in foster but was left for longer periods of time during the day in her original home, no signs of worrying behaviour went with this. She is good around food. She loves to go for walks but will pull on the lead, she is strong so this will be an ongoing training effort she does visit secure fields and is good off lead with a good recall. She will need a quiet walking area as she gets overwhelmed which can result in her refusing to move and trying to get home. She has got better with this as she has gained confidence and has been learning calming techniques from her foster. She does travel well in the boot or harnessed on the back seat.
Honey's foster says 'Honey is a lovely dog who would like an active family/household, she now loves going for walks and has lots of energy and loves playing with other dogs. She is losing weight and is on a strict diet which will need to be continued. My only concern is her being nervous of male visitors'.
