Description

Piper was rescued from a Romanian kill shelter and spent some time in a rescuers shelter before moving to her foster placement in October 24. Which is where she has been since. She is microchipped and neutered but her vaccinations have lapsed whilst being in foster. She has no other known health issues. There have been 2 recorded bite incidents in the home, neither have resulted in treatment outside of the home. One was a a bite on the thigh which bruised and occurred when the foster came in through the front door. The second time was when the foster was answering the front door and when moving the dogs back. This caused a graze to a forearm. It is recommended that Piper not be given access to a front door to prevent her building stress and reacting. Piper is not keen on visitors especially women and can be very vocal when people visit she would do best with a safe space. She seems to be better with males and responds better to them. She is not suitable for a home with children. Handling & Equipment The dog does not tolerate standard collars, harnesses, or tags and will actively chew them off. She walks well on a slip lead and is manageable when handled appropriately using this equipment. Dog & Animal Interactions She is very good with other dogs and enjoys social interaction and play. She has lived with other dogs and has not shown aggression toward them. She would benefit from living with another dog, preferably a male or a spayed female. She has been around cats and has behaved appropriately. Resource Guarding She has not shown any food or resource guarding behaviours. Destructive Behaviour & Separation She has a history of destructive behaviour, particularly during periods of high anxiety. When she first arrived in the home, she attempted to escape and caused damage to window handles and blinds. Although she has since settled, she will still chew items if unsupervised or under-stimulated. She can be left alone for periods of up to four hours; however, her ability to cope varies depending on her emotional state and environmental factors. Training & Routine She is toilet trained and crate trained. Overnight, she settles well and sleeps either in her crate or on a bed in the living area. She travels well in the car. Pipers foster says 'I think she needs to have a human male in the household as she finds them reassuring. She can be very vocal with women and a little overzealous when the pack is noisy such as when somebody is at the door. This is when I have been nipped on the back of the leg whilst restraining my spaniel and Kangal. I was having lessons with all of my dogs and the trainer was of the opinion that Piper was a bright dog who would go far with the right input. Unfortunately she has trust issues with me and we are at an impasse. My friend, currently living with me and a border collie breeder believes that she needs someone who has experience of BCs.'.
