Description

This is an advert I genuinely never thought I’d have to write, and it’s taken us a long time to come to this decision. Mabel is our beautiful Golden Retriever, born 6th December 2025, and she is honestly such a lovely dog. She’s incredibly affectionate, loving, funny and full of personality. She absolutely loves people and loves being part of the family. She’ll happily climb up next to you for attention and, as you can probably see from the photos, she loves being close to the children. Unfortunately, the one thing Mabel doesn’t seem to realise is just how big she is. She’s still very much a puppy in her head, and when she gets excited she can play quite roughly. There is absolutely no aggression or nastiness in her whatsoever — she’s simply a big, excitable puppy who thinks everyone wants to play as enthusiastically as she does! Unfortunately, because we have a young child, this sometimes means Mabel knocks her over or accidentally hurts her while trying to play. We’ve tried very hard to make things work because we absolutely adore her, but we’ve reached the heart breaking decision that Mabel would be happier in a home where her size and boisterous puppy behaviour aren't an issue. She has grown up around children and loves children, so this isn't a case of her needing a child-free home. We think she'd be absolutely brilliant with older children who are a little bigger and more confident around a large, playful dog. Mabel is still young, so whoever takes her needs to understand that, although she is already extremely trained she's not a finished article. She'll need someone willing to continue her training, give her plenty of exercise and let her mature into the amazing adult dog we know she's going to become. Most importantly, we're not looking to simply get rid of Mabel. Quite the opposite. We love her enormously, which is what makes this so difficult. We want to find the home that is right for her, where she'll be loved as much as she is here and where we can feel comfortable knowing we've made the right decision for her. We're asking £500, not because we're trying to make money from Mabel, but because we want to know that anybody enquiring has seriously thought about taking on the responsibility and expense of a large dog. Finding the right person or family is much more important to us than the money. We'd really like to speak properly with anybody interested and find out a little about the home Mabel would be going to. We're in absolutely no rush, and she won't be going anywhere unless we're completely comfortable that it's the right home for her. This is genuinely one of the hardest decisions we've had to make as a family. Mabel hasn't done anything wrong. She's just a big, loving, slightly crazy young Golden who doesn't quite understand how big she's become. ❤️
