Description
Carrie is a large, four-year-old female who is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
Carrie was found on the streets of Curtea de Arges in August 2023. She was described as a very shy girl, often overshadowed by more dominant dogs in the pen. She remained in shelter until November 2024 before travelling to one of our partner rescues in the UK, where she did well and made progress in her confidence but was reluctant to walk on a lead. Carrie moved to our Cheshire kennels in February 2025.
When she first arrived, Carrie was nervous of new environments and unsure about being handled. Over the past months she has made steady progress and now accepts a lead and harness comfortably. She enjoys her walks and is more confident exploring with our volunteers.
Carrie has formed some friendly relationships with familiar dogs at the kennels and can walk calmly alongside them. However, she can also become reactive towards other dogs, particularly if they are too close or she feels pressured. She may bark or whip her head round when overstimulated but responds well to extra space and treats as a distraction. Due to this, Carrie cannot live with another dog, but she can walk alongside others she knows in neutral environments.
Carrie does struggle with being left on her own and will need a home where someone is around most of the time to help her build confidence and settle. She has not met young children and, due to her size and boisterous nature, would be best suited to a home with older, dog-savvy teenagers aged 16 and over.
Carrie has not met cats and cannot live with them, as she has shown a high prey drive. She is not toilet trained or crate trained and this will need to be worked on in her new home. She is currently being muzzle trained and will need to meet any prospective adopters at the kennels so that introductions can be carried out gradually. Carrie travels well in a secure crate and settles shortly into the car ride.
Carrie is a gentle and sensitive girl who has made great progress since arriving at OSH. With time, patience and an experienced owner able to continue her training and confidence work, Carrie will continue to blossom into a happy and trusting companion.
