Description

Jakob is a medium sized boy thought to be around 11 years of age and originally from Romania He has been in long term foster in the UK and is now looking for his retirement home He is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. Jakob has no known medical issues and is in good general health. Jakob was initially a very frightened and nervous dog who struggled with human interaction but with time and patience he has built a bond with his Foster He is still very anxious with visitors to the home, particularly men and displays guarding behaviour such as growling and barking A potential adopter should be aware that several successful meets would be required between themselves and Jakob prior to a final decision being made. Jakob is a strong personality and requires an experienced home who could manage the more challenging aspects of his behaviour He needs a dedicated adopter with time and patience who is willing to build a relationship with him. Jakob thrives in a safe and nurturing environment with routine, boundaries and consistency. Jakob currently lives with another dog, an 18 month old mixed breed female She has a tendency “to pester” Jakob but he is very tolerant and his Foster describes him as “perfect with her”. Jakob is aggressive towards dogs he doesn’t know and has growled and nipped on occasion We recommend meets with any resident dogs in his new home and introductions within the home itself would have to be very carefully managed. Jakob could live very happily as an only dog in the home. Jakob is not cat friendly! He has never lived with cats and does display a prey drive so will need to live in a cat free home. Jakob’s foster family includes an 8 month old baby who he “is very calm around and has no reaction to” While there is nothing to indicate Jakob would not do well in a family environment we feel due to his advancing years a quieter household with children aged 12 years plus would be most suitable for him Applications for families with children below 12 years of age will be considered on an individual basis. Jakob is both toilet and crate trained, he is happy to be left for periods of up to 6 hours and has never been destructive in the home He sleeps well overnight and settles down in the baby’s room until morning When Jakob first arrived in his Foster home he displayed resource guarding around food He was described by his Foster as “being very food aggressive and would bite out of fear” As Jakob settled and his family gained his trust this behaviour is no longer an issue Care would have to be taken while he adjusted in his new environment to minimise the risk of this reoccurring. Jakob wears a collar and accepts a lead and harness He walks very well His Foster reports that he is aggressive towards other dogs that he doesn’t know but he reacts well to people he meets while out and about. Jakob travels well in the car. Jakob’s Foster has the following to say about him: “Jake needs an owner who understands his needs He is a dominant dog who if not challenged or kept on top of would become a problem We have had him for 7 years now and he came back twice after being adopted”
