Brandy Has Lost His Mum – Could You Give Him Somewhere to Call Home Again? Sometimes a dog comes into rescue through no fault of his own, and 12-year-old Brandy’s story is particularly sad. Brandy has spent his life as someone’s much-loved companion. Sadly, his elderly owner – his “Mum” – recently passed away. His familiar person has gone, his life has changed, and now, at 12 years old, this lovely older gentleman needs to find somewhere new to call home. We would dearly love to find Brandy someone who can give him what he needs most at this stage of his life: company, security, a comfy bed and a peaceful home where he can settle and simply enjoy being loved again. 💙 A Quiet Gentleman Brandy is a medium-sized, approximately 25kg boy who is calm and undemanding around the home. He likes having a quiet corner and his own comfortable bed where he can relax and watch the world go by. At night, he currently sleeps on his own bed in the bedroom with his carers. He is fine with visitors and rarely barks. He is also comfortable around strangers when out and about, although he’s not a dog who demands attention from everyone he meets – he’s quite happy staying close to his person without lots of fuss. His carers believe that Brandy may be deaf. He is also good with other dogs, so could potentially share his new home with a suitable canine companion. 🐾 Brandy Still Enjoys His Walks Don’t write this older gentleman off just yet! Brandy enjoys a gentle stroll once or twice a day and is lovely to walk. He stays alongside you on the lead and doesn’t pull. He does, however, know when a walk is coming! Having his lead put on can result in an enthusiastic jump and bark – a slightly surprising display from an otherwise quiet older chap, but entirely harmless. His recall isn’t completely reliable, so he is currently only allowed off lead in secure enclosed areas. He isn’t particularly interested in toys these days, although he does occasionally enjoy a good roll around on his back! He travels well in the back of the car and has been good when visiting the vet. 🏡 The Home Brandy Needs We think Brandy would be happiest in a quiet home with someone who is around for much of the day. He has been accustomed to having his person nearby, and following the loss of his owner we’d particularly love to find him someone who genuinely wants the companionship of an older dog. A retired person or couple could be a wonderful match, although age isn’t important – lifestyle is. What matters is that Brandy gets plenty of company and a calm, settled home. A secure garden is important so he can potter around at his own pace. Brandy has some difficulty going downstairs, so a bungalow or predominantly ground-floor home would be ideal. We don’t have enough information about his experience with children and, as Brandy clearly appreciates peace and quiet, we are looking for a home without young children. 🩺 Brandy’s Health Brandy has arthritis and takes medication for this. In August he was seen by a vet after developing problems with his balance, believed to be related to his inner ear. He was treated with steroids and anti-sickness medication and improved considerably. He is now able to walk unaided, although he can still show some signs of imbalance. He’s looking for someone to come home to. Someone who doesn’t mind an old boy snoozing nearby. Someone who’ll take him for his gentle stroll, let him potter around the garden and make room for his bed beside theirs. Most of all, someone who can make his world feel safe and familiar again. Brandy has already lost his person. We don’t want him to lose his home in the world too.
