Ragamuffins are large cats with a soft, densely plush, semi-long coat and a very fluffy long tail, often more voluminous than that of a Ragdoll. They have a broad, round face with expressive eyes that can be green, walnut, or blue. The breed is known for its sweet, gentle, affectionate temperament and social nature. Their coat colours and patterns are quite varied, and although similar to Ragdolls, Ragamuffins differ in eye colours and tail fluffiness.

Owning a Ragamuffin involves regular grooming to prevent matting and manage shedding due to their long and dense fur, which can be time-consuming or require professional help. They may be prone to certain health issues such as kidney and heart diseases. Their large size means they generally consume more food, increasing the risk of obesity if not carefully managed. The ongoing costs of veterinary care, grooming, and special diets can be considerable, making them somewhat costly to maintain.

The Ragamuffin breed was developed by crossing Ragdoll cats with other longhaired breeds including Persian, Birman, and Burmese cats, creating a distinct breed with a large size, gentle temperament, and plush coat. Originating from breeding programmes dating back to the 1960s and established in the 1990s, Ragamuffins carry the characteristics of these breeds while featuring a unique combination of colours, coat texture, and personality.
