We are looking for a loving new home for our dog, a two-and-a-half-year-old, short-haired Dachshund cross who is neutered. This is not an easy decision for our family. As our family circumstances are changing, alongside some health concerns, we are no longer able to give him the time, attention and care we feel he deserves. We believe finding him a home where his needs can be fully met is the kindest thing we can do for him. His personality He is a kind, gentle and affectionate boy who loves human companionship. He enjoys being around his people, but he is also very happy to rest or play quietly nearby while you get on with everyday life. He is wonderful with children and does enjoy meeting other dogs. Sometimes he gets a little overexcited because he is so happy to see them! There are occasional dogs he doesn't seem to take to and may bark at, but he has never shown signs of physical aggression. As with any dog, calm introductions and an understanding of his individual needs are important. Being a Dachshund cross, he has a curious nose and absolutely loves sniffing everything! He is always interested in the smells around him and enjoys taking his time to investigate the world on his walks. His little comforts and routines He enjoys his walks and exploring new places, although he needs a little time, patience and reassurance when somewhere is unfamiliar. He feels safest when he has clear guidance and can follow instructions from someone he trusts. Encouragement and consistency help him feel secure and build confidence. He has some lovely little habits that make him extra special: * Loves being tucked up under a cosy blanket. * Enjoys baths and being kept clean. * Is happy having his teeth cleaned and nails trimmed. * Is crate trained and can settle in his crate for up to four hours during the day. * Sleeps comfortably in his crate throughout the night. * Loves being close to his people while also being content to relax or play nearby The home he needs We are looking for a loving person, couple or family who can give him plenty of companionship, attention and reassurance throughout the day. Someone who has the time to include him in daily life and understands the importance of patience, routine and gentle guidance would be ideal. He would benefit from a home where he can feel safe, enjoy his walks, follow his nose, snuggle under blankets and receive all the love and attention he deserves. A home where he has a human nearby the majority of the time would be absolutely perfect for him. A note about his health He has a condition called cherry eye, this comes and goes on its own and has been checked by a vet. It may resolve on its own, although surgery may be required in the long term. We want to be open and honest about this so that his new family understands his condition and can arrange any necessary veterinary follow-up and treatment. This decision comes from love, not from a lack of it. We want to find him the right home, where he will be cherished, understood and given the time and companionship he needs to live a happy life. We are looking for a genuinely committed home rather than simply the quickest option.
