FYI, my previous ad was blocked because apparently I wasn't meant to republish an ad after pausing it. I'd done this a while ago as I was on holiday, but I'm now available. Please read and get in touch if interested. Bertie is a two-year-old labrador x cockapoo male looking for an active, experienced home. I named him after Bertie Wooster from Jeeves and Wooster, which suits his cheerful and slightly mischievous personality. Bertie’s a very friendly and playful dog with lots of energy and enthusiasm for life. Bertie is great with children, cats, and other dogs, and he genuinely enjoys meeting people. One of his biggest advantages is how quiet he is; he almost never barks. In nearly two years I’ve only heard him bark three times (once while he was dreaming). Bertie also has a German (EU) pet passport from a hiking trip we took in the Alps last year, which should remain valid for the next three years. Why I’m finding Bertie a new home ----------------------- This decision has not been easy, but it comes down to a change in my living situation combined with the type of home Bertie will thrive in long-term. For the past 15 years I lived in a large house with a garden. I brought Bertie home in June 2024 when he was 3 months old. Late last year I moved into a one-bedroom flat, and my work situation will soon require me to spend more time in the office. Bertie is a young, energetic dog who benefits from space, activity, and regular interaction. Given my new living arrangement and schedule, I don’t feel I can provide the environment and time he truly deserves. Bertie is also a very enthusiastic and excitable dog. He loves people and other dogs so much that he can sometimes become overstimulated in social situations. With training he responds well to commands and can be guided into calmer behaviour, but he does best with consistent structure and someone comfortable continuing his training. Another small quirk is that Bertie tends to run naturally lean. The vet has confirmed he is healthy, but he doesn't absorb his food as efficiently as would be ideal and always seems ready for his next meal. With the right routine and management this hasn’t been a medical concern. Overall, Bertie is a loving, energetic young dog who will flourish with someone who enjoys an active lifestyle and is happy continuing his training and development. I care about him deeply and want to make sure he finds the right long-term home, so I’m not rushing this process. What kind of home would suit Bertie best -------------------------------- I’m looking for someone who can give Bertie the kind of life he’ll thrive in. Ideally this would include: - Experience with dogs, particularly training and handling energetic young dogs - An active lifestyle: Bertie currently enjoys two one-hour walks per day and sometimes more - A stable home and work situation, with the time and resources to care for a dog - A house with a garden where he can explore and burn off energy Bertie already has a good training foundation and responds well to commands, so consistency will help him continue developing into a well-behaved adult dog. Next steps ---------- Because I want to make sure Bertie goes to the right home, the process will be gradual. This is a lot less strict compared to rehoming from a shelter, as I'm trying to make it easier you: - Initial meeting – We can meet in Brockwell Park (Herne Hill, London) so you can meet Bertie and see how he behaves in person. - Optional visit to my flat – If you'd like, you can also see where Bertie currently lives. - Home visit – If we both feel it could be a good match, I would visit your home so Bertie can see his potential new environment and meet anyone else in the household. - Trial period – If everything feels right, Bertie can stay with you for a short trial so we can see how you both get on. I’ll check in during this time to make sure everything is going well. - Transfer of ownership – If the match works, I’ll formally hand over ownership of Bertie (also known as “Bertinus”). If your circumstances change within 3 months and you can no longer keep him, he comes back to me rather than being passed on or ending up in a shelter. If you’re interested, please get in touch and tell me a bit about your experience with dogs and the kind of home you could offer Bertie, based on the criteria I mentioned in the ad. My priority is simply finding Bertie a happy, stable home where he can continue to thrive. The price I put there is to ensure commitment from whoever reaches out.
