🐾A year ago, beautiful, soft 10-month-old Maya arrived in the UK full of hope for her forever home. It wasn’t easy for her at first — the new world felt overwhelming, and she needed time to slowly build her confidence and feel safe.
Her family had dreams of training Maya as an assistance dog, but her sensitive nature meant this role was simply not right for her. She needed a calmer, more understanding path.
Life has now moved forward for the family, and a young puppy has joined them to be trained for this important role. Despite all efforts, careful introductions, behaviourist support and vet checks, Maya is not coping with the change. The busy, energetic presence of a young dog is too much for her, and she has become deeply uncomfortable and unhappy in her own home. And family too busy with new arrival also struggle to share time and efforts between them.
She is now almost 2 years old… and instead of feeling secure, she feels out of place.
Maya urgently needs a foster home where she can finally relax and feel safe again.

🐶 Maya is an almost 2-year-old German Shepherd mix girl, medium in size, but slim, with a soft heart and a deeply devoted nature. She is incredibly loving with her people and forms strong emotional bonds.

💔 Rescue story/ Background
Maya’s life began in the harshest of circumstances. As a tiny, helpless puppy, she was found near the railways, alone and trembling. Her sister lay lifeless beside her, a heartbreaking sight that no little one should ever have to witness.
But Maya had a gentle, resilient spirit that kept her going. Rescuers took her to safety, and her loving nature shone through even after such a tragic beginning.
She arrived in UK and needed time to learn that the world was safe. Her family have tried to do everything right for her, investing time, care and professional support.
But sometimes the environment simply becomes not right for the dog. With the changes in the household and the demands of training a working assistance dog, Maya’s needs can no longer be met in the way she requires.
This decision comes from care— Maya deserves a life where she feels secure, not overwhelmed.
🐕 More About Maya
Maya is a deeply affectionate girl who loves being close to her people. She will lean her whole body into you for cuddles and thrives on gentle connection.
She is a very clever dog who knows her commands, waits patiently for her food until released, and is fully house-trained. She enjoys enrichment activities like snuffle mats and puzzle toys, and she loves playing fetch and tug.
On walks, Maya is generally calm and walks nicely, only pulling slightly when something interesting catches her attention. She is more focused on people than dogs and can observe dogs without reacting.
At home she can be alert and will bark at the door, and may be unsure with new visitors at first, but with calm, kind introductions she settles well.
Maya is very food motivated, which makes her responsive to training. She may try to help herself if food is left out, so some simple management is needed. She needs regular brushing, which she mostly enjoys.

Maya needs a calm, stable home where she is the only pet. She is currently not comfortable living with other dogs or cats and needs her own safe space.
She would suit a gentle, emotionally aware owner who can provide consistency, patience and calm energy. A quieter household without young children would be best, though she loves older, respectful children.
Maya is a dog who feels deeply — she needs someone who understands that and can guide her kindly.
