Mavis is looking for a very special new home. She is around 20 months old and is a Labrador × Boxer × Staffy cross. She is more Boxer in height with more of a Staffy look. Mavis sadly came into my care after her owner passed away and rescues were full. She has had a huge amount of change in a short space of time, so although she is incredibly loving and affectionate, she can also be quite nervous and needs someone patient, calm and understanding who will give her time to settle. She is a lovely girl with so much potential. She loves to play, go for walks and snuggle up on the sofa with people she trusts. Sadly, due to not having enough time to give her everything she needs and having younger children around, I feel she would be happier in a calm home without young children. She hasn’t shown aggression towards children, but because she is nervous I worry she may become unpredictable if she feels frightened or overwhelmed, so I don’t want to take any chances. Mavis can also become reactive around other dogs when out, so ideally she needs someone experienced with nervous or reactive dogs who is willing to continue positive, reward-based training and, if needed, maybe work with a qualified behaviourist. I would preferably like her to be the only pet unless any introductions were carefully assessed and managed. A secure garden is important, and ideally I would love her to go somewhere with plenty of safe outdoor space or land where she can run and play. She can be very good off lead, but I would recommend that a new owner keeps her on lead or in a secure area until they have built a strong relationship with her and are completely confident with her recall. Most importantly, Mavis needs someone who can give her stability, patience, love and reassurance after everything she has been through. This will not be first come, first served. Finding the right home for Mavis is extremely important, so I would want to speak properly with anyone interested and make sure the home is genuinely suitable for her.
