❤️🐶 POPPY – A Small Companion Who Needs The Right Environment 🐶❤️ 🇬🇧🐾 UK SURRENDER – URGENT FOSTER NEEDED – POPPY 🐾🇬🇧 🏠 LOOKING FOR FOSTER (ADOPTION CAN BE CONSIDERED AFTER INITIAL FOSTERING) 🏠 📍 Location: Paignton, TQ3 🌟 RBU, post-adoption support and 4 weeks free insurance provided upon adoption (on request) 🚨 Urgent Situation Poppy was adopted from us in February 2022 and has lived with her family for four years. Recently, the family welcomed a baby who is now almost 1 year old and starting to walk. As the little one has become more mobile, Poppy has shown increasing anxiety around her and recently attempted to snap when the toddler came too close. No injury occurred, but the family are understandably worried about safety. Especially that Poppy was always snappy with visitors and new people, however she never broke skin or leave marks. They feel unable to safely manage both a toddler and a small anxious dog, and have asked for urgent help. Euthanasia was even mentioned by her family in distress, but we will always stand by our rescue dogs and find them a safe alternative. Poppy now urgently needs a foster home without children and confident understanding people. 🐾 Meet Poppy Poppy is a very small, likely Jack Russell cross, 7 year old girl with a strong bond to her people. She is house-trained, used to living in a home with a garden, and sleeps either in her bed or snuggled on the sofa — ideally under a blanket. When she feels safe, she is deeply affectionate, loving laps, tummy rubs, and close cuddles. 🌟 Highlights * SIZE: Very small * SPAYED/NEUTERED: Yes * CHARACTER: Loyal • Sensitive • Affectionate • Protective of space * DOGS: Lives with dogs; prefers calm companions and space around her bed, good as the only dog * CATS: Not suitable * CHILDREN: Not suitable * HOME LIFE: Fully house-trained, used to someone home most of the day 💔 Why She Needs A New Home Poppy has always been an anxious and sensitive dog. With familiar adults she is loving and settled. However, the unpredictability of a toddler learning to walk has become too overwhelming for her. She reacts defensively when startled or when her space is approached too quickly. She has snapped adults in the past when they reached near her bed or into her space, but didn’t break skin or left marks, that were kind of warning snaps. Even is these incidents have not resulted to any damage, but they show that she needs clearer boundaries and a child-free environment. 🐕 More Details This is what family says: “Poppy walks nicely on a lead , she loves to sniff and likes to be on a long line . she is ok if people and dogs walk past , but if people or dogs try to interact with Poppy she will react with growling or barking . “We are a family of 5 adults in the house, Poppy gets along fine with our family members. She likes to sit on our laps and have lots of strokes. She also loves to be snuggled under a blanket . We have extended family that visit regularly and again we have built Poppy's trust so she is ok with the adults. She has been fine with our granddaughter who is 1 , until she started to walk .” Poppy walks nicely on a lead and enjoys long sniffy walks, especially on a long line. She prefers people to ignore her and allow her to approach in her own time. She is more comfortable with women than men, but with patience she builds trust. With other dogs, this is what family says: “Rosie is a rescue dog who is 6, Poppy gets on well with Rosie unless Rosie goes to close to her bed when she is in it . Blossom is a miniature daschund who is 2, she is my daughter's dog and is usually kept separate from Poppy in the house as she is still young and gets very excited which Poppy doesn't like . Blossom and Poppy can be in the garden together and we also take all 3 of the dogs to a secure field so they can run around safely off lead together .” More from family: “When Poppy is feeling safe she is a very affectionate dog, she loves sitting on your lap and having cuddles and tummy strokes, and would enjoy that all day long. She is used to having someone with her most of the day and she is only left occasionally for 3 hours maximum. Poppy enjoys going on long walks and sniffing along the way, we always walk her on a lead as she can be fearful and has tried to run if something has worried her . She enjoys the freedom of being off lead in our garden and at a local secure field. Poppy likes food but has recently started to struggle with kibble so we have been softening it and moving over to a softer meat.” “Poppy is frightened of bin bags, carrier bags and the hoover, she will run to another room if she sees them.“ 🏡 Ideal Home Poppy needs an adult-only home with no children and ideally no other pets, or possibly one very calm, respectful dog following careful assessment. She would suit someone experienced with small, sensitive dogs who understands personal space guarding and fear-based reaction. She needs a calm household, predictable routines, and guardians who respect her boundaries while continuing gentle confidence-building. She is not a “busy household” dog. She is a deeply bonded companion for the right person. 💞 Poppy is not an easy dog, but she is a loving one. When she feels secure, she gives her whole heart — curling up beside you, snuggling under blankets, and staying close. In the right adult home, with patience and understanding, she can feel safe again and continue being the devoted little companion she has shown she can be. 🩺 Health Information Poppy is fully healthy. Spayed. Microchipped. Vaccination is not updated, rescue will take care about it. 💌 If you can offer foster-to-adopt home, please fill out a form: https://forms.gle/vHdDRdjFzXngqzUC9
