Description
Our beautiful boy Rex is sadly looking for a new home. This is an incredibly difficult decision as we love him dearly, but our young daughter’s safety has to come first.
Rex is a gorgeous, intelligent and energetic 10-month-old Border Collie. He is affectionate with his family, loves being involved in everything, enjoys playing and is very clever and eager to learn.
He has formed strong bonds with all of us and has a particularly lovely relationship with our daughter, who he has always been very interested in and often tried to herd when she was running around.
However, Rex has developed resource-guarding behaviour which we can no longer safely manage alongside a young child. He has guarded spaces such as our bed and has reacted when people have attempted to take things from him.
Unfortunately, he has bitten both an adult and our three-year-old daughter during these incidents, so we feel the responsible decision is to find him a suitable new home.
🏡 The right home
Rex needs an experienced adult-only home with someone who understands Border Collies and resource guarding and is willing to work with a qualified behaviourist.
He will need careful management around toys, food and other valued items. We will be completely open about his behaviour and answer any questions honestly.
He will come with his bed, toys, food, bowls, harness, leads and other belongings to help him settle into his new home.
Please only enquire if you have genuine experience with dogs and feel you can provide Rex with the appropriate home and support.
We are heartbroken to be making this decision and want to find Rex the right home rather than simply the quickest home. ❤️
Sorry this is still a little long — we just felt it was important to be completely honest about Rex’s behaviour and make sure the right person understands what they’re taking on.
