Meet Ted, a handsome 8-year-old Border Collie cross who is currently living with his family in Scotland. Ted originally came to the UK from Romania in 2020 and has spent the last six years as a much-loved member of his family. He has shared his home with another dog and enjoyed a life full of beaches, forests, camping trips and campervan adventures. Sadly, following the arrival of a baby, family life has become increasingly difficult for Ted. He has begun growling particularly when food is present or when the baby moves towards him. For this reason, Ted must be rehomed to a completely child-free home. His family adore him and this is an incredibly difficult decision, but they recognise that Ted needs an environment where he can feel settled and secure again. 🐾 A Boy Who Loves the Great Outdoors If your idea of a good weekend involves walking boots rather than shopping centres, Ted could be your kind of dog. He absolutely loves being outdoors. 🌲 Forest walks are a particular favourite 🏖️ He loves the beach – although he’s less enthusiastic about actually getting in the water! 🥾 He’s an experienced walking and hiking companion 🏕️ He’s been camping 🚐 He’s spent plenty of time travelling in a campervan 🚗 He travels very well in the car Ted walks beautifully on the lead and would be a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys getting out into the countryside. His recall is currently hit and miss, so he would benefit from continued training and should remain on lead unless in a secure enclosed area. 💙 Living With Ted Ted is fully house trained and currently lives happily alongside another dog. He is generally good with other dogs and could potentially live with a suitable canine companion. Food is one of Ted’s great loves – snacks are taken very seriously and unattended bread should probably be considered fair game! He can be protective around food, so should be fed separately from other dogs and given space when eating. Ted also has a weakness for anything fluffy or round – soft toys, slippers, fluffy socks and tennis balls are all firm favourites. He isn’t a dog who wants to spend all evening cuddled on your lap. He enjoys affection and a good belly rub, but when he’s had enough he’ll quietly take himself away. Having his own safe, undisturbed space is important to Ted. He likes being able to retreat to his bed or corner and simply watch the world go by. 🏡 The Home Ted Needs Ted has shown signs of anxiety during his life and needs adopters who will respect his boundaries and understand that some handling is difficult for him. He does not like having his paws touched, being groomed or having his teeth cleaned. Some grooming can be managed for short periods using treats, but his new family will need to be patient and work within his comfort levels. At home, Ted can also be protective of his territory and may bark at people or vehicles passing the house. Away from home he is fine out and about. We’re therefore looking for a calm, experienced home that understands Ted doesn’t need to be fussed over constantly. He needs people who can read him, respect when he wants space and enjoy him for the independent character he is. Ted cannot live with children. What Ted needs now isn’t someone who wants to change everything about him. He needs someone who will understand him. Someone who’ll lace up their walking boots, head for the forest with him, laugh when the bread mysteriously disappears and then let him retreat to his favourite corner when he’s had enough of the day. At eight years old, Ted still has plenty of adventures left in him.
