About Merlin
Merlin was found abandoned as a puppy in Cyprus and brought into the shelter by the dog warden. When he arrived, he was taken in by a nursing female dog who’d been brought in with only two of her own puppies. She took eleven other homeless pups under her wing and raised them as her own. Merlin was one of those lucky puppies! He has since travelled to the UK and is currently in foster care in West Sussex.
When Merlin first arrived at the shelter he was a nervous, withdrawn puppy. He was lucky enough to find a local adoptive home shortly after, and although that placement sadly didn’t work out due to his family not having time for a puppy, it had a noticeably positive impact on him. Merlin was returned to the shelter far more confident, social and settled, with some basic manners already in place. Time in a home really helped him make sense of the world!
Merlin is now a friendly, affectionate young dog who enjoys company and interaction. He is food motivated and easy to engage, forever offering an enthusiastic sit if he thinks there’s a treat involved. He enjoys being fussed over, cuddling on the sofa, and has even had some experience accompanying his previous family to coffee shops. He arrived in the UK on 25th January and although it’s still early days, he’s adjusting really well.
Merlin gets on well with other dogs and enjoys their company. He can be a little bit oblivious when other dogs don’t want to play, but this comes from enthusiasm rather than pushiness, and he’s still learning how to read social cues. He would be fine living as an only dog, provided he gets enough interaction and stimulation.
Merlin would be suitable for a home with children. He’s bouncy, but means no harm and is very friendly and loving. He also loves his walks and has plenty of energy, so would enjoy an active lifestyle with a family who enjoy long walks and adventures at the weekends. He would also prefer a home with access to a garden.
Merlin has typical young-dog energy and enjoys being outdoors, so continued training and routine will be important to help him mature into a good boy as an adult. He could cope with a busier environment, including city living, as long as his needs for exercise, guidance and engagement are met. He’s got so much to offer, and he’s going to bring so much fun to someone’s home!
