Description
Meet Walter, a very handsome rescue boy originally from Oman. Walter is a wadi dog which is the name given to street dogs in Oman.
Walter’s Story:
Walter was found in a bin with his brother and two sisters when they were just newborn pups. We rescued them from the bin and they went straight into a foster home where they were hand reared. When the pups were about two months old, they were split up. Walter went into a separate foster home with his brother where he remained until he flew to the UK at the age of 9 months old.
UK life:
Walter flew straight into his adopted home in October 2024 where he lived happily for one year. However, circumstances changed in the family when they welcomed a baby and discovered Walter was displaying uneasy behaviour around visiting children. Walter was then returned to us in October 2025.
Walter’s Ideal Home:
Walter needs a home with experienced dog owners, experience with street dogs would be an advantage but definitely people who understand dogs and their body language and behaviour.
Walter needs a rural home with a (large) garden. He is a medium energy guy and loves his walks but he can be very reactive to other dogs when out on a walk. Therefore he would not be suited to living in an area where he will encounter many dogs especially if in close proximity. If you enjoy hiking up mountains or secluded beach walks then that would be perfect for him. He travels well in the car too.
Walter is great in the house, he’s clean and non destructive. He’s content to sleep by himself and isn’t too demanding but he does enjoy a cuddle and is an affectionate boy. He makes a very good guard dog too and will bark at strange noises outside.
Walter needs an adult only home or a home with older teenage children. He’d preferably be homed to a family with no visiting young children or definitely people who would be happy to manage him with visiting children by putting him securely away in a locked room. He hasn’t had many encounters with children but has reportedly lunged at children when out on walks.
As Walter is fairly strong and 21kg, he will need fit and active owners who are able to manage him on a leash especially if he sees a dog or child and reacts.
Walter needs to be an only pet. Although he lived with his brother as a young pup, he has now been used to being the only dog in the house. Regarding other dogs, we think his reactivity is mainly leash based. He has been in boarding kennels recently and was reported to get along and play with the other dogs. We have also included a video of him with another dog he had just met in a secure field. He is not an aggressive dog, more fear based reactivity which can be managed with time and patience.
Walter is a wonderful dog who was lucky to have survived after his sad start in life. We are hoping the right home is out there to love him for who he is and not have expectations placed on him. If you’re looking for a loving, loyal and affectionate companion, he could be the one for you. If you are looking for a dog to take to the pub or busy beach walks, then Walter is probably not the one for you.
