Description
Luca is a much-loved 4-year-old neutered male Shih Tzu x Bichon who is looking for a calm, experienced adult-only home. This is an incredibly difficult decision for us, and we are only rehoming because we have a baby due in 15 weeks and do not feel we can give Luca the environment and management he will need going forward.
He is playful, affectionate, clever, and full of character. He loves cuddles, toys, chewing a bone, and sniffing out treats on walks and in the garden. He is active, enjoys his routine, is fully house-trained, can be left for up to 5 hours, and is excellent at the groomers, vets, kennels, and in the car. He is groomed every 4 weeks, does not shed, and is up to date with vaccinations, flea / worm / tick treatment, with only minor environmental allergies (tree pollen and dust).
We want to be completely honest about why he needs a specific home. Luca can be reactive around unfamiliar people and dogs, especially when with his owners. On walks this can look like barking, growling, or stiffening, and in the home he can become vocal and wary with unfamiliar visitors. He has no bite history, and once he is comfortable with someone he is absolutely lovely, but he does need calm handling, sensible introductions, and an owner who understands how to manage a reactive dog. For that reason, Luca would best suit an adult-only, quieter home, ideally with someone experienced and able to give him structure and confidence. We feel he would be safest as the only pet, although he has been fine with other dogs in some settings. He can be managed well with distance, barriers, a lead, or crate when needed, and he is a small dog who is easy to handle physically.
Luca will come with everything he needs, including leads, harnesses, collar, toys, food, bones, beds, blankets, coats, crate, vet history, behaviourist reports, and allergy information. Finding the right home is far more important to us than anything else.
