Description
I am offering my 4-year-old (accidentally put 5, can’t seem to change it) Czech German Shepherd (working line) for stud in the Sheffield / South Yorkshire area.
He is a strong, healthy beautiful dog who has sired previous litters (photos on profile). His temperament is friendly and playful with children, obedient and focused when required. As far as I’m aware he doesn’t hold KC registration although it’s possible he does based on where he came from.
He is fully trained for what these dogs are designed to do which is switch on, protect, bite, clear obstacles etc. Exceptional drive being a working line it’s obvious why the police use them, Heat came to me from a boxing coach.
Further information about the breed and origin;
Working-line Czech German Shepherds (often called Czech Shepherds) are one of the most respected, capable, and driven types of German Shepherd anywhere in the world. Their history is a bit different from the more common West German or American lines, and that difference is what gives them their unique temperament, strength, and reputation.
A Brief History
Origin in Communist Czechoslovakia (1950s–1990s)
Czech working lines were developed mainly at a government-run kennel called Pohraniční Stráže (Border Patrol).
These dogs were never bred for looks or show standards. Their only purpose was real border patrol work along the Czechoslovakian borders during the Cold War.
Breeding selection was extremely strict:
Only dogs that passed tough military-style temperament tests were bred.
They had to show exceptional nerves, tracking ability, endurance, and loyalty.
Weak or unstable dogs were removed immediately from breeding.
Because of this, the Czech lines stayed very pure, with less influence from show lines.
Key Traits
1. High drive
These dogs have strong prey, defence, and work drive. They’re naturally active, alert, and ready to go all day. This makes them excellent for:
-Protection work
-Police/military work
-Search and rescue
-High-level sport (IPO/IGP, etc.)
2. Strong nerves
Czech working lines are known for being calm under pressure. They don’t panic easily, and they think clearly even in stressful environments.
3. Athletic build
They tend to be:
-More compact and muscular
-With straighter backs
-Darker in colour (lots of blacks and dark sables)
This gives them a powerful but balanced physique, great for real work.
4. Loyal but not soft
Czech Shepherds bond deeply with their handler, but they’re not clingy or needy. They can be independent thinkers — good for work, but it means they need proper training and structure.
Modern Use
Today, Czech working lines are still widely used by:
-Police K9 units across Europe and the US
-Military handlers
-Professional trainers
-Sport competitors
-Active families who understand working dogs
Responsible breeders continue to focus on temperament and working ability rather than appearance.
Why They Stand Out
-Exceptional drive
-Stable temperament
-Strong genetics
-High intelligence
-Natural working instincts
