Description
Vivian is a wonderful girl who is well adjusted to life in a home. She was originally adopted to a home 3 years ago by another rescue. Sadly due to difficult personal circumstances they could no longer look after her, so we agreed with her original rescue to find a new home for her. She is currently in foster in Scotland where she is doing brilliantly! Meet and greets and transport can be arranged UK wide so please don’t let location put you off!
She is clean in the home, will happily settle and relax in between walks. She is good with other dogs and takes great comfort in their presence so she will need to go to a home with at least one other dog. Now that she has really settled with her foster family she has some lovely carefree moments where her true personality shines through! She loves to do zoomies in the garden and even tries to get the resident 15 year old Staffy to play! She also really loves a belly rub.
Vivian previously lived with children so could go to a home with children who are 8+. She is not suitable for cats. Vivian walks nicely on the lead although can be apprehensive of busy roads and can also react to other dogs which her fosters have started to work on but will need ongoing training which our trainer can support with.
Vivian can also find travelling in the car a little stressful but does lie down and settle and with time we think she’ll get used to it.
Whilst she is initially shy with people she soon warms up and once she gets to know you - her fosters describe her as the ‘sweetest, gentlest girl’. She loves to spend time with her people but doesn’t have to be glued to your side and will happily take herself off to snooze or relax.
Podencos are Warren Hounds meaning they use all three of their senses to hunt. This does mean that successful recall is tricky for podencos. Our adoption contracts state that for a minimum of one year, the dog must be kept on a lead unless in a fully secure garden or privately hired secure dog field. It may be that even after a year recall is still unachievable and any podenco may be an on lead dog for the duration. This is something prospective adopters should consider. They can lead perfectly happy lives on a lead and this is something we can discuss in more detail.
