Description
June is a sweet girl who through no fault of her own would benefit from and continue to blossom in a new home. She is:
- Fully house trained with zero accidents, has clear signals to go out (would just need showing the right way in a new home).
- Sleeps in her crate overnight and can be crated for as long as needed if there is presence. Can’t cope in crate if alone.
- Can be left alone for several hours, longer if there is presence in the house.
- Exceptionally obedient for the breed, understands and will complete various directions/commands.
- Fantastic recall even with distractions.
- Travels well in the car albeit stressed for the first 15 mins or so, is never carsick.
- Allows nails to be cut with bribery, is easy handled.
- Barks as per breed but not excessively, will stop if told.
- Loves long walks, and is happy, playful and loving.
- Wouldn’t know how to be aggressive if she tried, she knows only love and biblical greed (as per any dachshund).
She is an extremely loving dog who, especially given her breed, is exceptionally eager to please and never strays far from your sight. She enjoys playing fetch, cuddling up, and enjoys long walks where she benefits hugely from being allowed off lead. Her recall is excellent! Not bulletproof, but for her breed, she’s definitely up there with the best. She understands direction quite clearly, and will even “stay”, “sit”, or “be quiet” very reliably.
As she has come out of the teenage phase and started to settle into adulthood, she has become much more independent and capable of enjoying her own space. Whilst still a dachshund and therefore not comfortable being completely alone, she can be left for several hours but does benefit from some presence in the house, be it a human or dog.
With other dogs, she is extremely playful and affectionate, and always submissive. That said, she does have a tendency to rush in and be excited at first, so a home with a confident, easygoing dog(s) would be ideal, otherwise slow introductions would be necessary.
It has become clear to us since having her, that she would benefit not only from living with another dog or dogs, but also that we are simply not dachshund people. It is heartbreaking for us as we do love her tremendously, however the puppy blues never really faded, and either way she would be so much more at peace with another dog in the home - something we cannot offer. Similarly, we are finding we are unable to appreciate those dachshund characteristics that so many people know and love. She would thrive in a home where she can be her true dachshund self.
As such, we are hoping to find a loving home with a person or family who knows the breed and can continue to adore her for who she truly is. We think the perfect home would be:
A dachshund orientated or appreciative person/couple/family with at least one other dog, ideally in a rural or suburban area as that is what she currently knows. However the right person/couple/family with no dog could be equally ideal if she can be continually around you.
To find someone who is truly serious, and with acknowledgment to both her age and how well trained and easygoing (especially for a dachshund!) she is, we are looking for a fee of £800. This will include her crate, toys, bowls, everything we have purchased for her along with truly one of the best dachshunds out there.
We would insist on meeting any potential new family or owner for June before she goes anywhere!!!
