Description
Ruma is a 9 years old, large female from Romania. She arrived in the UK in 2020 and went into a foster home. She shortly then moved to her adoptive home but was surrendered after 2 months. This was due to her having a lot of energy and her home not being able to control her mouthing and her guarding behaviors.
Ruma then had 3 other foster adoptive homes but ultimately was surrendered again due to the owners not being able to manage her reactivity. She has since resided in the kennels since 2021.
Ruma is reactive to most dogs at the kennels and generally dislikes them. Ruma does have two friends at the kennels and goes out in the paddocks and walks with them. The kennel staff have tried to walk Ruma with others dogs however, they need to be calm and not react to her.
Ruma cannot live with other dogs or cats. She has a high prey drive.
Ruma does guard food and you cannot touch her or go near her when she is eating. The staff will put her food in the back of the kennel so she does not guard it when entering.
Ruma has bitten in the home multiple times. Ruma has also bit a volunteer when she was breaking up a dog fight between Ruma and another dog. Ruma has not bit any staff at the kennels.
Ruma is very loving and affectionate when she knows you and she is not stranger reactive so can go with volunteers if they're confident handling reactive dogs. Ruma is reactive to dogs, traffic and livestock. Ruma has zoomies in the paddocks and loves having belly rubs.
Ruma is clean in her kennel. Ruma can occasionally react to traffic but she is doing a lot better with this and will sit at the side of the road quietly when asked.
She is very trainable and loves treats and would make a great dog for someone who is experienced and will respect her boundaries.
Ruma currently goes out with a trusted volunteer and also goes out on overnight stays. She travels well in the car. Ruma has also attended behaviourist and training classes to improve her reactivity. She is muzzle trained and can wear it on a walk with treats to encourage her.
Ruma needs a child and pet free home.
