Some dogs are given a name when they are little. Others have to wait until somebody finally sees them, cares about them, and gives them one. This lovely boy is HERO. 💙
HERO appeared seemingly out of nowhere in a village where life can be very hard for a dog with no family of his own. Nobody knew where he had come from. What we do know is that he found a smallholding where dogs and cats lived, and he began to visit.
The resident dogs accepted him. HERO played with them and kept coming back, perhaps hoping that this might become a place where he belonged. He also discovered the cats’ food and helped himself to it when he could. For a dog trying to get by alone, those visits meant a chance to eat and a chance to be near other animals. 🐕🐈
Sadly, he was not welcomed by everyone. He was repeatedly chased away, sometimes with stones thrown at him. Children in the area also threw stones and sticks. Still, HERO returned, sometimes only after dark, when it was safer for him to look for food.
We can only imagine how confusing that must have been for him: finding other dogs who were happy to play, while having to be wary of the people around them. Yet he continued to seek out that little place. 💔
Thankfully, someone at the smallholding contacted us so that we could help him. She kept HERO secure until we were able to collect him. That call changed everything for this boy. HERO is safe now. ❤️
And the lovely thing about HERO is that, after all of this, he is still an active, playful and well-behaved dog. He enjoyed playing with the dogs who accepted him, and he deserves the chance to enjoy life without being frightened away from the places where he feels comfortable. 🐾
HERO has now been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. He will be ready to leave for his new home in approximately 19 days, around 15 October. 🏡
We would love to find HERO a patient, caring family who will give him time to settle and show him, through everyday kindness, that he is home at last. A secure garden would give this active boy a lovely place to play and explore. His new family should be ready to get to know him as an individual and help him build a happy life with them.
HERO has played with other dogs, so we would be happy to discuss a home with a suitable dog. Any introductions would need to be made carefully, as they would for any new family member. Although he took food left out for cats, we have not assessed whether he could live with a cat.
