Description
Miles is a highly intelligent young Border Collie looking for an experienced, structured home where he can live his life to the fullest. He is KC registered, from fully health-tested parents and is a confident, capable dog who loves being around his person and engaging with the world.
Miles has a strong training foundation and is very handler-focused. He has solid recall, good lead manners and road awareness - he will stop at pavements and wait for a release command before crossing. Miles does not show any problematic herding behaviour. He is able to walk calmly off-lead even around livestock, including sheep, and remains focused on his handler and toys rather than attempting to herd. He is highly motivated by both food and toys, making him very rewarding to work with, he especially enjoys nose work games. He also loves water and is very comfortable in new environments, having comfortably travelled long distances and also a trip to Ireland by Ferry.
In the home, Miles is fully toilet trained, having had no accidents for over a year, and can comfortably hold overnight for up to 10 hours. He is crate/pen trained and settles well. He currently lives in a multi-dog household alongside 3 cats and is dog-friendly with correct introductions, but has had issues. He is still learning to read other dogs’ behaviour.
Miles knows a wide range of commands including recall, sit, down, wait, go to bed, touch, drop it, paw, spin, up, shy and waiting for a release command before taking food. He can follow commands while walking and is currently working on his heel. He has also been taught good bite inhibition.
He does, however, need an experienced Border Collie or working dog home. Miles can show occasional fear-based or boundary-related outbursts, for example sometimes becoming reluctant to exit the car, which can escalate to snarling and intent to bite. Affection is typically on his terms. He is currently being muzzle trained to help support a smooth and safe transition into his new home.
Miles would be best suited to an adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy children, with an owner who understands working breeds and can provide clear, consistent handling. He would benefit from a calm environment and may do well with a balanced female dog as a role model, but would not be suited to a home with a male dog based on current observations.
All vaccinations, flea, and worming treatments are up to date, and he is currently unneutered. Ongoing breeder support is available, and it may be possible to meet his parents if desired. His original breeder is fully involved in this process and Miles will be rehomed under a return-to-breeder contract to ensure his long-term welfare and security. He has been seen by a vet and behaviour issues are not deemed to be caused by anything medically.
This is not a decision that has been made lightly. Miles is a brilliant dog with huge potential and in the right home he will absolutely thrive. He will need an experienced owner who can continue his training and development. Price is negotiable if the right home is found.
