Buddy was surrendered to the rescue not long ago and was quickly offered a home, but sadly it has become clear that this placement is not the right match for him. 💔 Why Buddy Needs a New Home
Buddy’s recent placement has shown that while he can live alongside another dog in the same space, he finds it extremely difficult to cope with sharing. Tension between dogs escalates quickly into flashpoints, because Buddy has never learned boundaries or how to read and respect another dog’s personal space. This makes a multi-dog household unfair for everyone involved.
The kindest decision for Buddy is now to find him a home where he does not have to compete for attention or manage relationships he doesn’t understand.
🐾 More About Buddy
Buddy is an incredibly loving and cuddly boy who behaves far younger than his six years. It’s clear he’s never been taught clear boundaries or structure, so much of his behaviour is very puppy-like. He thrives on human affection, loves cuddles, sofa snuggles, and playing ball, and truly wants to be close to his people at all times.
Food is a big motivator for Buddy. He is constantly on the lookout and will eat extremely fast, though this has already improved with the use of a slow feeder. He is learning to sit and wait before eating and is responding well to calm, consistent guidance.
On walks, Buddy is highly excitable. He pulls strongly on the lead, sometimes walking on his hind legs, and reacts loudly and intensely to other dogs) most likely so called leash reactivity due to frustration and desire to say hello and play). This behaviour comes from over-arousal and lack of previous training and means he will need a confident handler and structured, positive training, and also secure places to meet and play with other dogs off leash. He has also been known to jump up at passers-by when overexcited.
Buddy is still learning basic life skills that many dogs pick up earlier. With patience, routine, and gentle training, these things can absolutely improve.
🏡 Ideal Home
Buddy needs to be the only dog in the household. He would suit an experienced, calm home that understands untrained adult dogs and is willing to invest time into teaching boundaries, lead skills, and impulse control.
Children, if any, must be older, calm, and able to follow instructions around dogs. A household with predictable routines will help Buddy regulate himself and feel safe.
With the right guidance, Buddy has every chance to become a more settled, balanced companion.
💞 Buddy is a loving, affectionate lap dog who simply never learned how to share or regulate himself. In the right home, as the centre of someone’s world, with patience and structure, he has so much love to give. He wants to belong, to be close, and to feel secure.
