💔WHEN THE WORLD FEELS TOO BIG
Imagine being 15 months old...
A big, beautiful boy with your whole life ahead of you — but so much of the world still scares you.
For Ash, new people can be frightening.
A bike coming past can be frightening.
A pram.
A loud noise.
Somewhere you've never been before.
Something being moved that you're not used to.
Even the hoover can feel like something you need to escape from.
And when Ash becomes frightened, he doesn't always know what to do with those feelings. He can go into panic mode, and because he is a strong 28kg boy, that fear can be incredibly difficult to manage.
💔 But Ash isn't being naughty.
He's scared.
And when you're scared, the world can feel like a very big, confusing place.
His family have been working so hard to help him.
They've been teaching him to decompress.
To self-soothe.
To take things slowly.
They walk him in quieter areas and gradually build towards busier streets. They sit on benches with him, allowing him to watch the world from a safe distance rather than forcing him into situations he isn't ready for.
And slowly, he is getting better. ❤️
Because there is another side to Ash.
The side that comes home and relaxes.
The side that loves a cuddle and having his ears and bum scratched.
The side that happily settles in his crate.
The side that sleeps beautifully through the night.
The side that loves scent games, treats, raw chews, Kong toys, digging, fields and the beach.
The side that splashes happily in the water.
The side that lets you brush him, bathe him, check him over and cut his nails without a problem.
That is Ash. 🥹
He's not a broken dog.
He's a young dog who needs somebody to understand that his confidence doesn't grow by throwing him into the deep end.
It grows through patience, safety, routine and trust.
Ash does need to be carefully managed because he is strong and has a high prey drive. He can also pull on the lead and needs someone physically capable of handling him.
His previous male dog companion is no longer a safe match, after fights developed between them. However, Ash can live with a suitable female neutered dog, with sensible introductions and careful matching. He can also live with cats with sensible introductions.
💙 WHAT ASH NEEDS
🏡 A quiet home, ideally in the countryside or a quiet village
👨👩👧 Children aged 14+
🐕 A suitable female neutered dog may be considered
🐱 Cats may be considered with sensible introductions
🌳 A secure garden
🌿 Quiet walks and plenty of enrichment
❤️ Someone patient who won't expect him to be confident overnight
🤝 Someone who will let Ash learn that the world isn't always something to fear
Ash is 28kg and 15 months old.
He travels well, settles when left and is non-destructive in the home.
His current family are also willing to help and support the right home.
