Please read advert carefully before enquiring! Bruce is an 8 year old rescue dog that I've had since September last year. He was described as a Victor Meldrew. I rescued him as a companion for my other rescue Daxie. He did not have a name and the only history they knew about him was that he had been used as a stud dog outside. He is extremely dog friendly and only ever really shows his personality at the groomers etc. It's the only time I've seen his tail wag. The rescue also said that at the centre he acted as a Nanny for the other nervous females. He is still extremely reluctant to interact with any human. I have had him for nearly a year and he still would rather avoid me. He will never come to you for affection or attention. He will only approach you if you have food as he is food orientated to a certain degree. He very much has a nervous disposition, but has never shown any aggression and only ever shows fear. He is petrified if you approach him too quickly, if you're in a rush etc. He will not walk in front of you. When passing through doors you have to step back to let him pass. And he is particularly nervous around your feet. I assume he has been previously kicked. He has very recently started walking with us, but will only do so on a harness, not a collar and lead and will walk behind you. I was very much hoping that Bruce would come out of his shell. But after a year, it is evident that this is him. As a typical Daxie he is not 100% housetrained and will have the odd wee accident. But he can be left in his crate happily. He is not particularly vocal but I have heard him bark when he's separated from my other Daxie. We spend a lot of time on weekends away and if on the back seat he travels fine. I've found in the boot he tends to be sick. However as he's so nervous, I think he finds these weekends away quite stressful. He is healthy and has recently had a dental where they removed quite a lot of teeth which he has adjusted to. He is overweight but as he will now walk with us, I think that will improve. He must go where there are other dogs as he takes his little bit of confidence from them. And no children, not because he will bite, but because he finds their noise and presence stressful. But apart from that, I am unsure of what the right home for him is.
