About Fisher
Fisher was brought into the shelter in Cyprus as a young stray, found abandoned with his brothers. He spent a lot of time being very withdrawn and nervous in the shelter, and it took us a little while to coax him out of his shell and build his confidence, however, slowly but surely we managed, and by the time he left to shelter on the 8th March, he was a much happier, friendlier boy.
Fisher is an absolute darling. He’s a gentle, thoughtful boy with a soft nature and a heart of gold. He’s naturally on the shy side and can be a bit reserved when faced with new people or unfamiliar situations, but his confidence is growing day by day. In the right canine company, where he feels secure and where he won't be bullied, he is so at home. He loves other dogs and is a very sociable, friendly boy.
Around new people, Fisher can still be a little unsure at first, especially with men who are very tall or move suddenly, but it’s obvious that he wants to make friends. Once you get down to his level and give him a chance to come to you at his own pace, his soft, friendly side starts to come through, and treats are a great way to help him build positive associations and confidence. He is super food orientated, so this really helps!
Fisher is really great with other dogs and really benefits from their company. He has a submissive temperament and never tries to challenge others. He takes comfort from being around sociable, confident dogs, and he learns a lot by watching them. We feel that he seems to gain confidence just by being part of a group and for this reason, we feel he would really thrive in a home with another dog, as he’s never known life on his own. He is currently in a foster home with two resident dogs and he is brilliant with them.
Because of his slightly shyer nature, we think Fisher would be best suited to a home with children aged six and over, who can be calm, predictable and respectful of his space. He genuinely doesn’t have a bad bone in his body though, and the only reason we’re suggesting 6+ is for his own comfort, not because he’s not friendly. He hasn’t been tested with cats, but given his gentle and submissive personality, he could potentially live with a confident, dog savvy cat. A quieter, semi rural home away from the city with access to a garden would suit him well.
Fisher needs a calm, patient home where he can continue to build confidence and learn what it means to be part of a family. As his confidence grows, his puppy like nature will properly start to come through, so training will still be necessary with him being so young. He’s still just a baby, learning every day, and with the support of a new family and ideally another dog by his side, Fisher is going to be such a gorgeous little friend.
