The homeowners had been feeding them and giving them as much love and care as they could. Very recently they contacted us because they suspected two of the females were pregnant, so we scrambled to find foster spaces for both mums-to-be. We managed to get Bonnie and Dolly safely into Penny Paws care just in time. We named them in honour of two very special ladies the world loved and sadly lost this year. Bonnie was the first to pop! On 23rd September she gave birth to six beautiful, healthy kittens in our Hungerford foster home. Mum is doing brilliantly and there are absolutely no health concerns at this stage — all six babies are healthy and developing exactly as we would hope. They are obviously far too tiny for us to confidently determine genders or personalities yet, but that will become much clearer over the next few weeks. How reservations work I don’t ask adopters to choose an individual kitten when they are only days old. The first few weeks are fragile and, quite honestly, there isn’t enough to know about them yet to make a sensible choice. Instead, a £50 deposit reserves your position within the litter. At around 4–5 weeks, genders and personalities should be much clearer and you can meet the babies and choose from those available at your position. Choice is given in deposit order. If none of the kittens available to you feels like the right match when the time comes, your deposit can be refunded or transferred to another Penny Paws kitten. If for health or welfare reasons Penny Paws cannot proceed with an adoption, you will not lose any money you have paid. Adoption & care The adoption fee is £200 per kitten. The £50 reservation deposit comes off this, leaving £150 payable before collection. The babies will stay with Bonnie until approximately 9–10 weeks old and will only leave once they are healthy, fully weaned and genuinely ready. Before adoption they will be vet checked and appropriately treated for fleas, worms and mites. Vaccinations are not included. Penny Paws is a completely independent rescue with no outside or guaranteed organisational funding, and nobody makes a profit from what we do. Adoption fees and donations fund everything from routine care to cats requiring hundreds or sometimes thousands of pounds of emergency treatment. Every penny goes back into Penny Paws cats and, unfortunately, adoption fees already don’t cover the full cost of our work. We simply cannot afford to fund vaccinations for every kitten, so adopters arrange and fund these with their own vet. Neutering Neutering is incredibly important to Penny Paws. Bonnie’s story is a perfect example of why we work so hard to stop the cycle of unneutered cats producing litter after litter. These babies will be too young for us to neuter before adoption, so responsibility for arranging and funding neutering passes to their adopter.
