Description
We’ve had Topaz, a 21-year-old female Macaw, since she was 3 days old, so it will come as no surprise that it has been a very difficult decision for us to rehome her. However, health and family dynamics have made it much harder to give her the love and care she deserves, and we only want the best for her. Someone with experience of birds if preferred.
Our grandchildren love her, often asking to see her on video calls. She’s a lovely, affectionate girl and well-mannered, with a range of words and voices. Her best in the voice of Joey from friends is “How are YOU doing?” Frequently saying: “Hello, Hello Topaz, Hello Topaz how are you? How are you? And Hello Topaz how are you doing? She also has a wonderful infectious laugh; pretends to cough and occasionally snore.
She understands the command ‘Up’ when coming down the side of her cage, ‘Step up’ onto your hand, although she will always step back onto a hand behind her and will give a ‘High Five’. At night she automatically goes into her cage.
She eats a range of nuts, fresh fruit and veg. She’s never seen the vet due to ill health, she does get a bit broody every so often, shredding paper to make a nest for an egg.
She ‘lives in’ a big enough cage for two, and daytime uses a Java Tree and Tee-bar. While she can fly, it’s rare that she does, usually only due to slipping on the tree or edge of cage, then she’ll squawk all the way to our rubber tree the other end of the house.
Equipment:
The cage is: 102 x 73cm by 180cm high, with top opening doors, front top is a drop-down door, and front large opening door. Three water / feeding bowls. Zero rust or damage. Unbolts for easy transport. On wheels to move.
The Java tree is on a movable base 124 x 73cm, with a tree 145cm high. One drinks bowl.
The tee bar is on a 72cm circular steel base, again rollable, 120cm high. Two feeding bowls.
