Looking for the Right Home for Bruno 💙 This is one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make, but after a great deal of thought, we’ve decided to find the right home for our much-loved bulldog, Bruno. Bruno will be 3 years old in January. We’ve had him since he was 4 months old, and he has always lived in a loving family home. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, in good health, weighs around 26kg, and is raw fed. He settles well when left alone, travels well, and has so many wonderful qualities. He is affectionate with the people he knows, loves human company, and is a big character who enjoys being part of the family. The reason for this heartbreaking decision is that we’ve come to realise our home is no longer the right environment for him. Over time, Bruno has developed behavioural issues that mean he is not safe living with children. He has shown resource guarding behaviour, including becoming possessive of sofas and the adults he is closely bonded to, and he has lunged at our children on more than one occasion. Thankfully, no child has been seriously injured because adults have always been able to intervene quickly. Following advice from a behaviourist, Bruno is no longer allowed on the sofa, and we have made changes to help manage the situation. However, despite our best efforts, we feel we can no longer safely manage the risks in a busy family home, and we don’t want our children to continue living with these restrictions. Bruno can also become very overexcited around other dogs. He isn’t intentionally aggressive, but his enthusiasm can be overwhelming for some dogs, so we’ve tended to avoid busy walking areas. Bruno currently lives happily with our cat, who joined the family as a kitten, and they coexist well. However, he will chase unfamiliar cats outdoors, so any potential home with cats would need careful consideration and slow, sensible introductions. This decision has been made out of love, not because we don’t want him. We adore Bruno, but our first responsibility has to be the safety of our children and any children who may visit our home. We believe Bruno would thrive in a calm, adult-only home with no children or regular child visitors. He would suit an experienced owner, ideally someone familiar with bulldogs or dogs with behavioural challenges, who is willing to continue working with him using positive, reward-based training. We are in absolutely no rush and will only let Bruno go to the right home. We will ask plenty of questions and be completely honest about his history because finding the right match is far more important to us than finding a quick one.
