🐾❤️ CORRIE – Foster-to-Adopt in Cornwall, Devon & Devon/Somerset border ❤️🐾
Hello! I’m Corrie, a 6-year-old Working Cocker Spaniel looking for someone who really gets me.
I’m handsome, clever, affectionate, active, slightly nose-led and occasionally convinced I know better than the humans. So… pretty standard Cocker really 🤣
I love running, sniffing, exploring, carrying things around and keeping busy. I’m also rather fond of tummy rubs, cheek massages and sitting on somebody’s lap when I fancy a cuddle.
I’m house-trained, crate-trained, good in the car and can stay home alone for a few hours without throwing a Spaniel-shaped tantrum.
I’ve been with my family since I was a pup and I am very, very loved ❤️ So why am I looking for another home? My family now includes a two-year-old human. I’ve never been aggressive towards her, but little humans wobble, grab, fall over things and don’t always understand when a dog is quietly saying, “I’d rather you didn’t do that, please.”
My family know me well enough to realise that keeping us separated and managing every interaction forever isn’t realistic. They love me far too much to wait for an accident to happen before making a difficult decision. Nobody has stopped loving me. Quite the opposite. This decision is being made because they do ❤️
Now… I do come with a little instruction manual. Not a terrifying one. Just one that needs reading 😇:
Over my six years there have been a small number of occasions when I’ve reacted defensively because I felt worried, uncomfortable or pushed too far. It doesn’t happen often. Most were very low-level and didn’t break the skin or need medical treatment. There have been a couple of occasions where I used my teeth to communicate more firmly and the skin was punctured, so we’re not going to pretend otherwise.
There has always been a reason or trigger: something I didn’t want taken from me, being disturbed while resting, grooming, or handling around my neck, collar or paws. Sometimes I had already tried to say, “Please stop, I’m not comfortable,” but the human didn’t quite hear me.
That bit matters. I’m not a dog who goes looking for trouble. I need somebody who notices the little signals before I ever feel I have to make my point more strongly.
My humans have already helped me loads. I’ve learned “leave it”, which usually results in me swapping something for something better. Excellent system, if you ask me 😂
I’m not actually a big fan of harnesses. My family use a slip lead day to day. Once I know and trust you, that’s normal life, but if we’ve only just met, please don’t assume you can immediately reach around my neck and put leads, collars or harnesses on me. Get to know me first. Treats help. A lot 😁
Grooming is similar. My family think I may have had a bad grooming experience when I was younger because I used to cope better. My paws are especially sensitive and baths aren’t exactly my favourite hobby. Treats, lick mats and peanut butter help enormously. Drying afterwards? No thank you. I’d rather run around and sort that bit out myself 😂
Basically, I need somebody who will work with me rather than against me. If I’m uncomfortable, pause, give me space and find another way. Swap rather than take. Build good associations before handling me. Do a little grooming today and a little more tomorrow.
I don’t need somebody who thinks, “You’re a dog, you should just let me do this.” I need somebody who thinks, “Okay Corrie. I hear you. Let’s find another way.” That person and I could get along rather brilliantly ❤️
I’m friendly with most dogs, although German Shepherd-type dogs make me nervous after some previous bad experiences.
Cats? Probably not 😬
Livestock? My Spaniel brain says VERY INTERESTING, so sensible humans will need to manage that carefully 🤣
My next home must be adult-only. I’m looking for someone experienced, calm, kind but confident; someone who understands dogs, notices the little signals, can give me routine and boundaries without turning everything into a battle, and is patient enough to let me learn that they’re safe.
Please be someone who can look past a handful of difficult moments spread across six years and see me. There’s a clever little Working Cocker who loves adventures, enjoys affection, settles beautifully at home and has lots of character and a rather lovely heart ❤️
I’m currently living with my family further north in the UK and I’m expected to come into Paws2Freedom’s care at the end of October. Until then, everything here is based on what my current family have experienced and shared with Paws2Freedom, as they won’t be able to meet me in person until I arrive. My profile can then be updated if needed.
Paws2Freedom are looking for a foster-to-adopt home for me in Cornwall, Devon or around the Devon/Somerset border. That gives us time to get to know each other, build trust without rushing and decide whether we’ve found something rather special.
After spending my whole life with the family who raised and loved me, this next chapter is a big one. I don’t need a perfect human. Just the right one.
If you’ve read all this and thought, “Corrie, mate. I get you,” perhaps we should meet ❤️🐾
