Description
Lion (Full name Lion Tolstoy) is a large (near 50kg) and incredibly athletic dog. While good at security, he is also extremely friendly, playful, affectionate and sociable. He has 1/4 Sarloos in his makeup, with Canadian timber wolf as a great-grandfather, so is technically also a low-content wolfdog with the extra strength and agility to match. We were also originally attracted to his mother, who with the wolf genetics was also of a wonderful temperament and loved the children handling her pups.
Lion’s character is essentially completely GSD, but his physical abilities are impressive. He is 50KG and 27” at the shoulder, but can jump 7-bar gates and run at a speed that is simply ridiculous for his size! Fortunately he is not clumsy, and doesn’t run into people. He has managed to catch squirrels and wild rabbits, but lives with cats at home.
Though clearly keen to protect his family and unafraid to challenge anyone suspicious, he is also very sociable and friendly and has the high intelligence and good nerve to understand situations and is trustworthy. He loves guests coming to the house, asking for tummy rubs, and is friendly out and about since lots of people want to stroke or hug him. It’s aways a good sign when the postman loves your giant guard dog (as was the case in our previous home too!)
His father was an exceptionally intelligent straight-backed GSD of Spanish origin, while his mother is half KC GSD and half Sarloos wolfdog as mentioned.
Aged 5, and in complete prime, we are now ready to breed from him, at a reduced rate for his first mating. We did not want to affect his lovely nature by starting no too early. If successful we will then probably move in to hip-scoring him, though a look at his prowess in movement, and given that his late father was fit and able to walk steep hills right up to the age of 13 1/2, and his mothers robust genetics, we have no doubts as to his genetic qualifications.
Ideally we would prefer a mate to come to us, but understand if this is difficult.
We are constantly told that he is the most impressive and beautiful German shepherd that people have ever seen, while a horse judge exclaimed that his trot is as graceful as any Lippizaner stallion!
