💙 Tommy is still searching for the right home. He's a typical high energy spaniel. He loves a good run, currently in a secure field, where his recall is improving. On lead walks Tommy is strong and can pull a little in his enthusiasm. He can react to dogs and people when he is on the lead, but with correct training he has ignored dogs and people passed at distance. Tommy's favourite things are chasing a ball, chew toys and playing tug. As a young spaniel, Tommy occasionally ( mostly in evenings) gets quite mouthy during play or when he wants to play and can grab hold of clothes in his excitement. Tommy needs continuing guidance to redirect to more appropriate behaviours and improve impulse control when over stimulated. In the home, Tommy is a lovely boy who adores being with his humans engaging in daily life. He is house trained and has been left for a couple of hours free roaming in the dining room and has showed no destruction/accidents when left. Tommy has met a selection of family members from teenagers to the elderly when visiting our home and has being friendly and playful. He loves his food and treats and takes them gently. He also enjoys the mental stimulation of lick mats, kongs and puzzle toys. Tommy would benefit from a family who understands spaniel traits and is willing to put in some time and effort to help Tommy flourish.

💔 Background
Tommy was originally purchased as an eight-week-old puppy by an elderly couple. As he grew, he did not receive the structure, training or confidence-building young spaniels benefit from. More recently, changes in his owners’ health meant they could no longer care for him, he spent long time crated, wasn’t walked properly and finally he was surrendered to our rescue.
Since then, Tommy has shown how loving and devoted he can be in a home environment, but his past experiences appear to have left him feeling unsafe around certain people, particularly elderly individuals. This is something that can be worked through with time, guidance and the right setting.

“Tommy is a lovely boy who loves his humans. He enjoys being close to his human and loves to be cuddled, stroke and generally loved. Tommy has been left alone for short periods of time with no issue. I am sure with time to settle and as his confidence grows in his forever home the time he can be left alone can be extended.
Tommy walks well on a lead, he can become excited to see birds and other dogs in true Spaniel style!! Tommy’s family will need to be committed spending time with him and training him to improve his typical Spaniel behaviours.
Tommy’s ideal home would be in a semi rural area with an active owner. Tommy has spent time with other dogs both in the home and in the community with no issue. Although he can sometimes bark if he is unsure and will look to his owner for reassurance.
Tommy sleeps well through the night and enjoys spending time chilling as much as he loves the outdoors!

Tommy needs a semi-rural or rural environment with fewer everyday triggers, an active, confident active not elderly owner, and a predictable routine. He will thrive with someone who enjoys walking, training and engaging with a young spaniel’s mind and energy.
