Description

His name is “El Dorado” (Dory). Hatched 23rd June 2024. Closed-rung, fully flighted, healthy, solid eater, strong, hand-tame. Who's he? Dory is a young Maxi Pionus. He's a clever, sassy, active, affectionate, and manipulative little bastard. He steps up, follows you like bad reputation, devours veg like a starving goat, flock‑calls like a banshee, and figures out how to push your buttons within seconds. He will test you and he will make sure you are providing your A-game and your best peanuts. He loves attention, head scritches (very-very dramatic about them), sunshine, peanuts, noise, electronic music, corn, and his Fiory pellets (he's a weirdo). In short: he thinks he's the main character. He's not wrong. Why I’m rehoming: I originally wanted a female Pi to expand my flock with, but the breeder sexed him wrong. I got him to integrate with my current flock, but he’s not getting along with my other Pi, and as hormones are creeping up, I've had to make the difficult decision to part ways. I can't run an avian soap opera for the next 3 decades, so it's best if he gets his own show. If he got along with my other bird, I’d keep him for life. He’s a true character and a loveable little menace. What you’re getting: • A solid, strong, healthy, young parrot with no baggage beyond being opinionated, and being addicted to peanuts. • Pellet-converted (Fiory Amazon type, which he loves a lot), good eater, takes fresh fruit and veg, dried flowers, sprout mix. Do NOT give him seeds at all, only as treats. • Sleeps on a proper 12‑hour light/dark cycle, gets his dose of vitamin D, loves curtain rods and raining poop down from them. • He has an amazing personality, easy to train, eager to adapt to humans, loves chatting with people. • A decent range of expressive sounds. He says "hi baby" like his life depends on it, "hello baby" for attention, wolf whistles when happy, flock-calls in 5 different dialects, including cockatiel-ese. He mimics sniffling, dishwashing, and will mock you if you sneeze. • No cage, but I'll give you a bag of Fiory pellets he loves, and a mix of treats he goes for. What I’m looking for: Someone who actually knows parrots. Dory has a very lovable personality, but also a very strong one. He's smart, expressive, goofy, and easy to train, but you have to respect his boundaries. He needs daily attention, structure, and ideally, to be the only parrot (or housed with someone who gets how to manage multiple personalities). I will vet potential buyers because I adore him and he deserves a good home. If you're not asking questions already, don't bother messaging me, but if you are, I’m always free for good people.
