💙🐶 TOMMY THE SPANIEL – A CLEVER, LOVING BOY LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO WILL LOVE HIM AS HE IS 🐶💙 🏠 WISE FOSTER OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT NEEDED ASAP 🏠 - PLEASE READ FULL INFORMATION BEFORE APPLYING 📍 Currently located: Derbyshire SK23 🌟 RBU, post-adoption support & 4 weeks ******************Plan insurance provided upon adoption (on request) 🌟 💙 REDUCED ADOPTION FEE – THE RIGHT HOME MATTERS MOST! 💙 A small donation to support our rescue would be appreciated, our priority is finding experienced, dedicated people who understand Tommy's challenges and are committed to to manage them with kindness. We hope Tommy's next move to be his LAST — to people who will give him time, patience and love, rather than give up after a few days. 💙🐾 🔄 UPDATE FROM TOMMY'S FOSTER Tommy has now spent eight months with his foster family, who did their best to help him. They are very fond of him, and despite the challenges, they said there will be tears when he leaves. 🐾 Meet Tommy Tommy is almost a 3-year-old, lower-medium English Springer Spaniel boy. He is affectionate, extremely intelligent, energetic and wonderfully enthusiastic about life. He loves human interaction, walks, tennis balls and activities that challenge his clever Spaniel brain. He is always ready for something interesting to do! ✨ Highlights ✨ • SIZE: Lower-medium – English Springer Spaniel • NEUTERED: Yes • CHARACTER: Loving • Intelligent • Energetic • Playful • People-oriented • DOGS: Generally sociable, especially with females; best as the only dog at home due to resource guarding • CATS: Not tested, so NO • CHILDREN: Adult-only home • ACTIVITY: Enjoys two walks daily, tennis ball games and mental stimulation 🐾 More About Tommy – Understanding His Challenges Tommy's main difficulty is resource guarding, particularly involving objects he has stolen around the house. Like many clever, inquisitive dogs, Tommy enjoys investigating things that don't belong to him. Unfortunately, once he has taken something, he can become very possessive of it. If someone tries to physically remove an item from him, he may snap or bite, which have caused bruising but, according to the information provided, have not broken the skin. This behaviour needs to be understood and managed appropriately. His foster has already had success using distraction, treats and tennis balls to encourage Tommy to give things up voluntarily. And this is exactly the sort of sensible approach Tommy needs — prevention, management, trading and positive reinforcement rather than confrontation. A secure, thoughtfully organised home environment, where tempting household items are kept out of reach, will also be essential. Tommy is very clever and can find ways to reach things you wouldn't expect! Outside these difficulties, Tommy has so much to offer. He enjoys his walks, loves playing with tennis balls and thrives on interaction with his people. His current foster provides around an hour and a half of walking daily, alongside regular games and activities. Tommy also appears to respond more comfortably to women than men, which may be worth considering when choosing his next home. 💔 Tommy's Background Tommy originally lived with an elderly couple who struggled to provide the activity and stimulation a young Springer Spaniel needs. As their circumstances changed, he spent increasing amounts of time confined before eventually coming into rescue. He has since been assessed by behaviourists, who believe he needs experienced, consistent handling and structured behavioural support. His current foster family have given him eight months of commitment, exercise, care and affection. They have done their very best, but Tommy needs someone with more experience to take Tommy further. 🏡 The Home Tommy Needs We are looking for a wise, experienced and confident person who understands resource guarding and knows how to manage it safely. Tommy needs an adult-only, preferably single-dog home, with a secure garden and a calm, predictable routine. His future family must be comfortable using management, distraction, trading and positive reinforcement, and understand the importance of preventing situations where Tommy feels the need to defend something. He also needs people who enjoy active dogs and can provide daily exercise, games, mental stimulation and plenty of positive interaction. We are prepared to reduce Tommy's adoption fee to a minimum for the right committed home, and happy to connect with a suitably qualified behaviourist approved by the rescue. 💙 We don't expect Tommy's next family to be magicians. We are simply looking for people who understand that dogs sometimes develop behaviours which require knowledge, patience and clever management. Tommy is a dog, after all. And we humans have the ability to think ahead, organise his environment, avoid unnecessary confrontations and teach him better ways to cope. Behind those challenging moments is a lovely, affectionate, intelligent boy who has so much enjoyment, companionship and love to offer. His foster family will miss him terribly. We hope someone with the right experience will see the wonderful dog they have grown so fond of — and give Tommy the chance he deserves. 💙🐾 🩺 Health Information Tommy is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated, with his boosters recently updated. He receives monthly NexGard flea and tick prevention and Droncit tapeworm treatment every six months, with the next dose due in November. No known underlying medical conditions have been reported. 💌 If you can offer forever or foster-to-adopt home, please fill out a form: https://forms.gle/vHdDRdjFzXngqzUC9
